Forever Cancelled By ABC After One Season

Forever Season 2 Cancelled Or Renewed?

Not everything is everlasting. Despite series creator Matthew Miller‘s best hopes, ABC has officially cancelled Forever after one season.

Alice Evans, wife of star Ioan Gruffudd, was first to deliver the news:

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but ABC decided tonight not to renew FOREVER for a 2cnd season. It's brutal, but that's show business.

— Alice Evans (@AliceEvansGruff) May 8, 2015

Ioan is a little shaken right now but he wants to reach out and thank the wonderful, loving fans who made the whole experience so magic.

Our comprehensive 2015-16 Scorecard has been updated to reflect all the latest renewals/cancellations.

NOOOOO. I can’t believe it. I am very upset. This was such a great story. One that was different than all the copied shows. This network keeps rediculous shows and take good ones off.

I agree! This show had so many places to go and characters to expand! I always wonder why they keep the same type of shows and cancel the ones that have so much potential. It is the same with movies, they let ones win the Oscar that most people have never seen. Yet, overlook some of the actors and movies that top the box office in everyway. Sad really!

Cancelling FOREVER was one of their biggest mistakes, it was a great show with a lot of potential. CBS sucks and they are always cancelling good shows, they don apparently don’t know when they have a good thing. I am done watching anything on that station.

Your heart is in the right place; but the network is ABC not CBS. Anyway, they always keep the perverted stuff with the homosexuals and women just sleeping around and cancel the good quality that people want to watch. I am about to get rid of cable entirely (TWC) and just watch the old TV shows from the 60s & 70s. They didn’t allow the perversion that they allow today.

This was my favorite show also. and I agree with judy c. We removed cable 2 years ago and only regret not being able to get Big 10 basketball and football coverage. The Network has an agenda as judy c says and won’t stop til all shows are perverted crap…So sick of reality tv..even the cooking shows…Bring back Forever it was so refreshing!! 🙁

I keep wondering a while … if we are a bunch of idiots – eating popcorn and hamburgers – which looked only at series with stupid zombies, vampires and werewolves, or the endless series with teams of policemen from several towns (… in soon all cities)…and we are not able to follow also intelligent series, without shootings and all behavioral and verbal clichés …?!
However …it seems to be at least 7 million, roughly, who appreciate serials like “Forever” (and other similar tv series !), and his note on IMDB confirms, as in the case of series like “Person of Interest”, “The Blacklist” or “House of Cards”, that there are enough people everywhere who appreciate first of all a clever script, attention to the mind and soul ! But this is too much for some network executives…people with more than questionable intelligence, who see only money and again money, without thinking that their network needs TV shows addressing also to the market segment composed of intellectuals and not just the drinkers of beer and pizza eaters. The stupidity of television network executives apparently has no limits !!! Are increasingly more the series with only one season…left without proper endings, unfinished stories…a mockery unimaginable to the viewers. In other words …7 million people are equals … zero!!
Shame!!! As far as I’m concerned I will not even look at ABC.
Maybe Netflix channel, or someone else, could take this serial tv and relaunch it for the joy of millions of admirers and fans (…fans around the world ! Believe it !!) !!!

Greetings, respectfully, to those who enjoy the show and, of course,
the whole team … Forever !

I heartily agree, I guess they can’t stand shows with intelligent plots & good dialogue. The networks only like shows that are stupid & every third word has to be blipped out.
They canceled Covert Affairs, Necessary Roughness, White Collar, Perception & now Forever. No wonder I go to the Library with a shopping bag.

It was so refreshing not to hear cursing every other word on Forever. It was a good clean show that anyone good watch and not be embarrassed by. I agree that there are not good shows left on TV anymore. I wished that they hadn’t left me hanging. This is the first television show that I have watched on any of the major networks since Diagnosis Murder went off the air. I hope ABC is proud of themselves.

I can’t believe that they cancelled Forever and renewed Gavalant. That show was so stupid. I watched one episode and that was the end of it for me. If ABC had any executives with brains they would renew Forever!

Renee, don’t you know that the letters stand for “Absent Brain Cells” – or “Always Been Clueless”?

They are down to only 3 other shows in the entire week that I DVR – I have instead discovered the joys of the cooking competitions on The Food Network. There are episodes of Chopped almost every day and there are 4 episodes of Beat Bobby Flay every week…Top Chef is on Bravo (I Think) and Diners Drive-Ins and Dives can be seen several times a week, too.

If the absent brain cells had not cancelled my favorite shows, I would never, EVER, have watched cooking shows. EVER. I do not cook, I can’t even get to my oven or stove. They are not needed, so I use them for storage space! But I love the ingenuity of some of these chefs. I am enthralled with their skills. And I would not have discovered them if those clueless folks had not sent me away!

this WAS a copied show and not new and original… do your home work. This show was nearly an exact copy to a show called “New Amsterdam” that was also cancelled after 1 season. I guess they copied it a bit too much

        November 17, 2015 at 22:53

Rexx, I don’t care that it was copied; I never saw the original, and I am certain it did not have Ioan Gruffudd and Judd Hirsch!! The relationship between those two was obviously father and son, and was delightful to watch. The show was guaranteed to make me smile and keep smiling, long after the episode was over.
It kills me that they put it in such a terrible timeslot; almost as if they were deliberately trying to kill it, even before it started. I had the DVR set to record “Any Day, Any Time” so it made no difference to me when it was on, but many folks don’t think to do that…
The difference between this and other “immortal” shows is that he had a child, who grew up normally while dad never aged a day…that alone crated a dynamic that was missing from all other similar shows. I happen to LOVE stories that can jump in time and show life as the character lived it a century ago…
It had a great cast, interesting storylines, fascinating trips to the past, and I miss it.

Sylvia you’re right. I cntv beloved they cancelled forever after only one season. Especially when there is so many shows that are the same and then you get forever which was different and they cancelled it, but then again I’m not so surprised it is a similar situation like the one with New Amsterdam.

You had one good show, and you blew it.
Agents of shield was unwatchable pre winter soldier, and you dragged us thru that pile of crap. Forever was actually a good story well acted and. (Dare I say it?) cool, but you are too blind to see it
THIS IS WHY WE GO TO HBO AND NETFLIX.

I can’t stand it when good original shows get cancelled. This one was doomed from day one because it was aired on Tuesday against NCIS and NCIS New Orleans. Why wouldn’t you give a good show a running chance and put it on a day that didn’t have to go against one of the highest rated longest running shows on tv? I thought that maybe ABC was starting to add decent shows that my family could watch, but once again they dropped the ball. I hope another station grabs this up and realizes it’s worth. This just makes me realize again why I don’t watch ABC.

Go to ABC.com and give them your complaints about the show. Sign the online petition. There is still a possibility that Forever can be saved. Unforgettable was cancelled and then brought back because of the fans. Other shows have had the same fan support behind them. Look at Supernatural. They wanted to cancel that years ago but the fans have supported them. Let’s support Forever and keep a quality show with quality actors on the air.

Forever was a nice show but everyone here is a bit silly. Its just a show controlled by a bunch of writers. Instead of complaining, you should all be happy it got cancelled and go outside and breathe fresh air. Walk around your block and greet your neighbors. Or take a short drive and go hiking. In general you will live longer if you get active instead of just sitting around and watching a video.

ABC thinks its not worth their while to continue the show, accept their answer and boycott them by boycotting them and just get outside and hike/visit your neighbors instead.

anyways instead of being a slave to these shows, just go with the flow. quit whining and break free.

that’s all i have to say.

I am more than disappointed that ABC cancelled FOREVER. We looked forward to this show and the great cast. The idea was fresh and the total approach was original, serious, funny and totally enjoyable. It had so much to offerror as a series and I am hoping ABC will reconsider renewing this series and roving it from the cancelled colum.

I have sent an email to ABC about their mistake in cancelling Forever. I never tune into ABC because their network blows. The one time I did tune in to Forever, I was hooked. “Oh we have an original show, let’s cancel it and keep the Bachelor, a show about stuck up females trying to win the affections of a jackass.” Nice job idiots.

I’m so tired of ABC cancelling shows that many of us enjoy watching. Every time we introduced to a new show we give it a chance. Why doesn’t ABC? First seasons usually get a slow start because the story is being told and we’re being introduced to new character but that’s not good enough for ABC so they just cancel it when we’ve invested our time in watching what they put out.

Those of you who think contacting the ABC would make a difference, don’t even try. They’ve made it clear that once they cancel a show it FINAL and they don’t turn back. These are words directly from their mouths. They said this about another show of theirs that was cancelled no long ago.

I loved this show. I just don’t understand why the channel networks has to cancel really good shows. This was pure fantasy but so enjoyable to watch. These networks are about or supposedly about good programming and what the fans want to watch. So far not one of the networks keeps any show just for the fans. If they don’t get high ratings like NCIS or Bones then they pull it. Just not fair. Shame on you networks.

We finally found another program besides NCIS that is worth our watching and the idiots in control cancel it. What for (another dumb reality show) ? This program had enormous possibilities and the writers were good. The actors were excellent, it is a shame that another network couldn’t pick it up and continue. We are really getting discouraged with television these days. It is no wonder that streaming like Netflix is becoming the next big thing. Where are your brains television executives?

Okay CTV or CBC. Here is your chance to pick up and continue a really great show. Maybe if you tried to get it the existing US networks would realize what they are losing. Not only that, this show was not that expensive to make like some of the others. After all, it is cheaper to make movies and TV shows in Canada because of the low dollar and Toronto can pass for New York City.

you finally find a show where you enjoy the charactors and the show and what does the network do but cancel. Why don’t you cancel some of the dumb shows (like more stupid reality shows REALLY) and leave these that are enjoyable to watch. We wait each week for the new show. No wonder ABC is not number one cause who really wants to watch all the reality. You could definately elimate the bachelor, bachelorette or big brother and leave FOREVER alone

What is it with these networks? It takes more than one season to find an audience sometimes. I am so glad that I was lucky enough to experience “Forever”, and like the previous comments I am sick of the regenerated crap that finds its way year after year to the TV screen as well as the programs that couldn’t stimulate the brain of a chipmunk! My apologies to the chipmunks of this world who could not even stomach the regurgitated crap the networks always seem to have room for!

I was going to name other shows that ABC has on their schedule, but I watch ABC so rarely I can’t even think of other shows they have on the air right now. So if they want to continue to being in new viewers, keep the shows we like. Why don’t these reps actually ask viewers, not just look at numbers?

Are you serious? I can’t believe you’re canceling FOREVER. My girls moved to another State and we talk every week after the show airs and talk about the show and life. This show opens up a lot of great topics for conversations with my 20 and 24 year old girls. It’s hard enough to have something in common with your children this show has it all. Mystery, science fiction, love story, comedy, family values, drama, it keeps you wanting more. And most of all a CAST that’s entertaining. What is a television show suppose to do? Keep you wanting more? Keep you in your seat? Keep you home, watching live? We can’t wait each week to watch. We record it while we watch it. And will watch it again to see if one of us missed something. Please! Please! Reconsider canceling this series. Take a poll you’ll see the viewers want it renewed. Hurry before some other network signs one of the cast members to another series.

“Forever” in my opinion was the flag ship for ABC.
In the past ABC has put new programs on their network, only to just cancel them after one season.
If enough home TV will block ABC just to give them a taste of their own medicine. Let them watch their
rating drop when people no longer watches ABC network.

ABC you canceled a lot great programs in the past, my way would to cancel ABC would be blocking ABC all together.

    ABC considered yourself block.
FYI: ABC: I am a Senior citizen (72) young, there are more Senior citizens who feel the same as I do.
They also have made measures as I have done.

Nearly all of my Favorites were pulled this season from most of the networks.Probably a good thing since I don’t need to be watching so much TV anyway. I will just stick to the occasional redbox and save myself a fortune and a lot of aggravation.

What a sad mistake. There aren’t too many television shows left that actually entertain viewers without being offensive in one form or another. “Forever” was one of those shows that fully entertained the viewer’s creative indulgences without being offensive. This show will be missed. Thumbs up for the actors who put their best foot forward to captivate viewers who weren’t afraid to explore something different and unique.

Thank to the actors who showed up and took us to another place of entertainment. I enjoyed every minute of your characters coming to life. The cancellation was incredibly unintelligent, one of the few thought provoking series on TV today. The series had an interesting, educational and historical overlaps in its story line. Always captured you, drew you in, it was not like the usual junk on TV today. Perhaps that is why it was cancelled. What a loss to our culture.
