The X-Files has indeed been cancelled after 11 seasons.
The news comes in the wake of Gillian Anderson reconfirming that Season 11 will be her last.
Speaking in a Reddit AMA, show creator Chris Carter admitted he has no intention of continuing The X-Files without Anderson, and described the Season 11 finale as the “series finale”:
“For me, the show has always been Mulder & Scully. So the idea of doing the show without her isn’t something I’ve ever had to consider.
Was her character given a proper goodbye? I think you will want to sit down and watch the series finale very carefully.”
Carter attempted to clarify his ‘series finale’ comments:
“When I say series finale, I mean the Episode 11 series. The four struggle episodes were all pieces of a whole and Episode 10 completes the whole.”
The cancellation reaper suggests there’s no smoke without fire, with insiders also confirming that The X-Files — with Anderson’s departure — will end without Season 12.
Could the series reboot/spinoff without Scully? Insiders again state that the show is dead without Anderson’s Scully.
The 11th and final season of The X-Files premieres Jan. 3, 2018 on FOX.
RIP.

So done with this… Love the show but this clown thinks I watch cuz of the characters. No bro, it’s about the show. The E.T., paranormal, the unexplained phenomenon. I could care less if scully and Mulder are on it or not. Maybe some genius in lala land will do a recreate and get some young, hungry actors who want to do this thing long term

yes, you are right this guy thinks he walks on water, and the writers spend all the time being political crap than trying to keep the views entertained! i watch tv to get away from all the garbage in the new and the late night talks.

My grown son will no doubt go into X-Files withdrawal when his favorite show for the past forever years is no longer on.

Chris Carter is deluded. X files has never been about Scully or Mulder. Get some nobodies and reboot. X files for a new generation.

I love Sully and Mulder on the show, it would not be the same without them.
Harvey Brodersen says
I agree with the above comments. Scully and Mulder gave the show flavor but the substance of the show was the “X-files”

I lost interest this show a long time ago. Despite the hype I’ve not watched a single show this season or last for all that matters. It’s the same old, same old. If it had the viewers that people thing, it would have gone on without Scully and I would have continued not to watch it anyway.

That’s very sad… I feel like it just got started again. Ah well, all good things must come to an end. Hope it’s a good one!

And another legendary TV show bites the dust while dragonshit swill like “Dancing With Idiots Who Aren’t Remotely Stars” and “Bubblegum Autotuned Singing Competition” (one of those on every network, I think) continue to torment TV viewers for eternity.
And believe me, the Devil knows eternal torment!

For what it’s worth, The X-Files Series, has always been about Scully and Mulder. Why do you ask? Because if you all remember from Season 1, the FBI created the X-Files, and intentionally picked Fox Mulder to run this department. And when he did fit the mold that they wanted, they brought in Dana Skully to de-bunk his findings. She didn’t work out, so now you have the eternal struggle.
If they do decide to reboot, they will again need a fox and hen to make the show interesting. Realistically, I don’t think it will ever happen. I think it has finally run its course. All they have to do is finish the “smoking man”, and have Dana, Mulder, and William live happily ever after on some chicken farm in Montana.
DON DAMON says
Correction: Fox did NOT fit the mold that they wanted.

I realize the info is sketchy and fluid, but the writing in this article, headline and body, are sketchy and not fluid. Concise and accurate tag line with “non-conflicting” and non-confusing content keeps me coming back for more.
Just some friendly constructive criticism from an “armchair quarterback” reader.
Talmon Murphy Jr. says
Correction: that should have read “the article and headlines are also sketchy and fluid”.

There’s more than meets the eye here. Gillian Anderson is trying to save face. Perhaps if the show had refrained from jumping on the political bandwagon with episodes mocking our president, or perhaps if Anderson and David Duchovny hadn’t jumped on the NFL bandwagon by taking a knee, they might not be dealing with dwindling ratings. We might seem disengaged because we aren’t rallying in the streets by the thousands (Obama effectively shut down conservative groups by using the IRS as political ammo), but the Silent Majority is ever vigilant and we make our voices heard when necessary. Recently the NFL experienced a 17.9% drop in ticket sales, and the Grammys lost 20% of their viewers. Hopefully someday they’ll get the message. Sixty million people aren’t “chump change”.

So where does that leave Mulder? David has been said would stay. Find him another partner!

The x-files is a great series. The relationship of Scully and Mulder characters show what a working relationship among loving people might be like. That kept the show interesting along with the x-file plots. People love both aspects of each episode. Why stop a show that works for many people? Some of the excuses are not viable. Maybe, the future will bring some unexpected x-file surprises.
Mulder says
The last season was awful!
