ABC next week will likely have to make a renewal decision on its new drama series The Whispers, which has shown promise in the early going, especially in DVR viewing.
The network has found itself in that predicament because of how The Whispers came about. The drama was originally picked up to series in May 2014 for a midseason launch, with standard cast options until June 30 2015. That normally gives networks plenty of time to make decisions on fall and midseason series. But in the case of The Whispers, the horror-tinged drama was pushed to a summer run and premiered on June 1.
That would make next Tuesday, the day after Episode 5 airs, the deadline to make a decision on Season 2.
