The Shannara Chronicles has been axed at MTV, but the second season will survive on sibling network Spike TV (soon to be Paramount Network), where it will air this fall.
In a statement, MTV said:
After much consideration, it was decided that the second season of The Shannara Chronicles will air on Spike. We’re honored to have worked with our extraordinary production partner, Sonar Entertainment, along with fantasy visionaries and executive producers Al Gough, Miles Millar, Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman and Dan Farah along with executive producer and best-selling author of the book series, Terry Brooks. We’re pleased that fans of the beloved franchise will be able to follow the characters and epic story they love on its new network.”
The future beyond Shannara Season 2 is naturally unclear, particularly given the show’s departure from its original network and Spike’s upcoming rebranding.
Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the renew/cancel status of The Shannara Chronicles Season 3 at its new home…

What is spike tv? I am 62 too. To get second season you will wait 2 years that is ridiculous. I love book series but to jerk a ground by networks. Will make think twice about watching series.

The writing, filming, announcing, and ultimately broadcasting of a TV show involves contracting. Demands are made, deadlines are set… in short, it’s a longer and more difficult process than we are made aware of.
With that said, Shannara just underwent an additional process in which it was dropped by its original network, then picked up by a sister one which is yet another process in itself.
We all like to see our shows in a timely fashion (I should know) and might get upset when it doesn’t happen, but it’s a good idea to consider the circumstances as well, before making up one’s mind about shows in general. I hope this comment is of help if only a little. If it’s not, I tried.
Seven blessings… 🙂
