The warning signs were real. Netflix has cancelled Sense8 after two seasons. The streaming company has opted not to renew the sci-fi drama for a third season, RenewCancelTV can confirm.
In a rare move, Cindy Holland, VP Netflix original content, issued a statement on the cancellation:
“After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end. It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable.
Expressing the significance of the series, Holland adds:
“Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment.”
Sense8 ended Season 2, and now the series, on a giant cliffhanger that will never be resolved on-screen, unless the show is revived elsewhere. As it stands, there is no indication that the high-cost series will be shopped elsewhere, but stay tuned for potential updates.
