“We sat down with the cast at the end of last year,” explained executive producer Eileen Heisler to EW. “It was important to have a year to say goodbye. We want to be able to tell all the stories.”
“It’s a family show,” added executive producer DeAnn Heline. “We could keep going for 10 more years with new relationships. We could go another 10 years.”
While the slow walk to the cancellation graveyard has officially begun, the producers have known the sitcom’s endgame for a while, says Heline:
“We started having an idea a couple of years ago and honed it more in the last year.”
“It will be true to our show. It’s an end that fans will like.”
