Home Fires was cancelled after two seasons on a cliffhanger, but what would have happened in Season 3 had ITV not reversed its initial renewal decision? Creator Simon Block and executive producer Francis Hopkinson spilled the beans to RadioTimes:
“Pat doesn’t manage to escape from Bob and her romance with Marek continues at a distance,” hints Hopkinson. “We do lose a couple of much-loved characters who everyone’s grown to love and there is an illicit romance. And more WI action as well. That’s all I’m going to tell you because it might come back.”
We did, however, squeeze a few more details out of Block. “One of the characters [doctor Will] is very ill so there’s a limit to how long you can credibly continue with that character surviving,” he adds.
“We’ve got a female character who’s gay and at the end of the second series she gets married and we intend to play that out properly and show how she’s struggling to be open about her sexuality while at the same time she’s being scrutinised within a close community.

I can’t believe there is no Season 3….!! It’s a really good series, and the characters are real, I want to know if Pat finally leaves that louse of a husband, and all the other cliff hangers…how could you leave us all hanging??

I agree with the other posts on here…..bring back Home Fires! It ended so abruptly and with such a terrible ending!

OK, the home where the baby’s born, miraculously survives the plane crashing into it, grows up to become a suspiciously inept U.S. playboy politician, Pat sees her escape from being burned alive from the plane crash as an omen to leave her dastardly husband, the writer whose book is finished and exposed as a word-for-word copy of a Brit’s “Gone With The Wind” is imprisoned for beating his former wife ~ the village is restored, it’s income from the defunct parachute company replaced by income and 100% employment in the new tourism industry and sex workers vacation community, a suspicious swarm of Shickelgrubers moves into a mid-century modern gypsy encampment, All loose ends are knitted up, no one wins WW2 and all the village ladies import a French hairdresser to open a new shop over the pub . . . series writers/producers swear they will never shut down a video series before its time!

Please do another Season!!!! You cannot leave us hanging especially since we all grown to love this series. I got so many people hooked on this and now upset over the cancellation. Why cancel a great series? I so looked forward to every episode – all written so very well. Please do whatever you need to to bring it back!

Is this typical of British Television? Back in 1968 it was the most interesting TV during the period of the “Prisoner” TV show starring Patrick McGoohan. It was also excellently done and then cancelled after really only 1 season with a very lousy ending. The potential of these 2 TV series to go somewhere and cover very real and not so real stories is uncanny considering the balony and BS we’ve sat through during much of TV drama which (some garbage).
Its only a cliffhanger if your going to save it. Otherwise its simply an unfinished story.
So you may want to WARN people in future not to get to emotional involved in BBC television it will only leave you wanting.
