Hulu and VICE Strike First Licensing Pact, Bringing 150 Hours of VICELAND Content to the SVOD Platform
New Agreement to Make Hulu Exclusive SVOD Home to Hundreds of Episodes of Award-Winning Series from VICELAND
SANTA MONICA, CA – Today Hulu and VICE Media announced their first-ever content licensing agreement. The new pact — VICELAND’s first SVOD partnership — will increase Hulu’s library of unscripted programming with 15 critically acclaimed series from VICELAND, including all past episodes of the Emmy Award-nominated Gaycation and Woman, as well as popular shows such as F*ck, That’s Delicious. These and other VICELAND series will be available to stream exclusively on Hulu beginning June 8th, significantly expanding the reach of the new channel’s award-winning content library.
“Our viewers love watching thought-provoking reality series on Hulu, and partnering with VICELAND is yet another way we’re building the most valuable content offering for fans of unscripted programming,” said Lisa Holme, Hulu’s VP of Content Acquisition. “VICELAND has consistently created and produced stories that explore the cutting-edge, culturally-relevant topics that Hulu’s young and passionate audience craves, and we’re excited to be the very first to offer their shows in a subscription on demand environment.”
“VICELAND is a key part of expanding on VICE’s ongoing commitment to create the most compelling and unique content young viewers can’t find anywhere else,” said VICELAND president Guy Slattery. “We’re excited to have Hulu as a platform partner to continue widening the audiences for our shows.”
The deal will make Hulu the exclusive subscription streaming home to the complete past seasons of 15 VICELAND series including Oscar and two-time Emmy nominee Ellen Page’s look at LGBTQ communities across the globe, Gaycation, feminist icon Gloria Steinem’s Woman, rapper-chef Action Bronson’s popular F*ck, That’s Delicious, and the meta-comedy What Would Diplo Do?, starring James Van Der Beek as the titular music superstar. Other popular shows include: Abandoned, Black Market featuring Michael K. Williams, Bong Appétit, Cyberwar, Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia, Hate Thy Neighbor, Huang’s World and Weediquette.
Launched in 2016, VICELAND has produced hundreds of hours of original content. Its expanding library reaches a young audience with lifestyle-focused series examining all elements of culture, from music, food, and fashion to technology, sex, drugs, and beyond. The channel, while still in its infancy, has seen the second highest year-over-year growth across all of television among 18-49 viewers with a 26% lift.
All titles will join Hulu’s growing library of thousands of episodes of hit unscripted shows, as well as exclusive programming from across the A+E Networks® family. In March 2017, Hulu and A+E Networks announced an affiliate agreement that brought VICELAND, as well as all six original brands from the A+E Networks Family, to Hulu’s live TV streaming service. Hulu’s new deal with VICELAND will make programming from the channel available to stream through Hulu’s SVOD service for the first time. (Hulu)
