Good news, everyone! The new mobile game “Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow” — developed in partnership with show creator Matt Groening and featuring the original voice cast — is now available free to download.
The game comes from Jam City, via its game studio TinyCo, and 21st Century Fox’s FoxNext Games. “Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow” features an all-new story created by Groening, executive producer David X. Cohen, and the “Futurama” writers. In the game, players embark in a galactic adventure in search of ancient alien artifacts to restore the fabric of spacetime after it is disrupted by one of the universe’s most recognizable yet enigmatic creatures: the Hypnotoad.

The cast and creators of the beloved sitcom (producers Matt Groening and David X. Cohen and voice actors Billy West and John DiMaggio) participated in that great masochistic act of self-journalism — a Reddit AMA — to promote their new mobile app, Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow. As is often the case with these scenarios, it took literal seconds for one Reddit user to ask the Necessary Obvious Question: Could we see more Futurama episodes or movie specials once again?
Producer David X. Cohen replied candidly: “There are no new TV episodes or movies in the pipeline at the moment… HOWEVER, here and now I promise a different avenue of exciting Futurama news later this summer, no kidding. Keep your expectations modest and you will be pleased, possibly. I am not allowed to say more or I will be lightly phasered.”

Yes, please bring Futurama back for the umpteen time; either to straight-to-DVD, TV special, weekly series, guest staring in an TV series, (such as the Simpsons), theatrical movie, live action, or animated! It’s an excellent show, and has returned many times. It won an Emmy for Fox and an Emmy for Comedy Central. When Futurama returns, the result is usually worth the wait.
