UKTV gets Carter for Alibi
Britain’s biggest multichannel network, UKTV, today announced it has acquired three new shows from Sony Pictures Television (SPT) for premium crime drama channel, Alibi.
The deal leads with Carter, a brand-new detective drama commissioned by SPT Networks and produced by Amaze Film + Television. Carter’s star-studded cast is headed up by Jerry O’Connell (Billions) who plays Harley Carter, a detective on a hit American TV show until he is forced to return to his sleepy hometown after an embarrassing public meltdown in Hollywood. Now that he is back, Carter taps into his acting experience to become a real-life detective, partnering with his two best friends, Sam Shaw (Sydney Poitier Heartsong, Chicago P.D.) and Dave Leigh (Kristian Bruun, Orphan Black).
Also in the deal are The Guardian starring Simon Baker (The Mentalist) and Unforgettable, starring Poppy Montgomery (Without a Trace), both coming to Alibi in 2018.
Emma Sparks, UKTV’s head of acquisitions, said:
We are excited to be working with Sony again and look forward to another successful series together. Carter is a show that is bursting with energy, drama and action. We can’t wait to bring Harley Carter’s detective dynamism to the UK.
Mark Young, Senior Vice President, UK, Iberia & Africa Distribution, Sony Pictures Television said: “We are thrilled to be bringing such a great range of enjoyable series to UKTV audiences. Carter, Unforgettable and The Guardian will have a great home on Alibi and we are excited to continue our relationship with UKTV.”
Executive Producers from Amaze Film + Television, Michael Souther and Teza Lawrence say: “Alibi is the perfect home for Carter in the UK, joining the growing list of international broadcasters partnering on our new series. We think UK audiences will fall in love with Jerry O’Connell again.”
Emma Ayech, channel director for Alibi, commented: “Carter is a brilliant, fast-paced new detective drama with a twist. With a star-studded cast, and action and adventure around every corner, we are delighted to add Carter to Alibi’s growing slate of glossy crime shows.”
Earlier this year, Frankie Drake Mysteries also launched on Alibi to huge success for the channel. The first episode tripled its slot average and the series has reached over 1.26m viewers since January. Alibi saw success with Rosewood in 2017 which was 133% improvement on slot and has reached 1.42m viewers. (UKTV)
