HBO is aiming to renew Big Little Lies Season 2, despite the series’ cancellation.
Programming president Casey Bloys has confirmed plans to un-cancel the limited series, revealing that he has asked author Liane Moriarty to “take a crack at” a story for Season 2, adding, “I’ll be very curious to see what she comes up with,” per TVLine.
The planned revival of Big Little Lies Season 2 comes despite exec producer/director Jean-Marc Vallée previously confirmingthat the show didn’t have a future beyond Season 1:
“There is no way; there’s no reason to make a Season 2. That was meant to be a one-time deal, and it’s finishing in a way where it’s for the audience to imagine what can happen.”
However, Bloys is confident Big Little Lies‘ cancellation isn’t set in stone:
“I know [Jean-Marc] said that… but Nicole and Reese can be very persuasive. First we have to see the material and see if it’s worth everyone’s time. And if it is, [we’ll have a] conversation about directors.”
Will Big Little Lies Season 2 make it through development hell to secure an official revival? Stay tuned…
