American Gods Season 2 is back on track. The Starz series has tapped Jesse Alexander as new showrunner following the departures of original incumbents Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, per THR:
Jesse Alexander, who has worked with Bryan Fuller on shows including Hannibal and Star Trek: Discovery, will take over showrunning duties alongside graphic novel scribe Neil Gaiman.
“I’m thrilled that Jesse is [the] showrunner. He loves and understands the book, he loves and understands the TV series and he’s dedicated to making future seasons of American Gods as good and as beautiful and as unique as they can be,” Gaiman told THR. “Shadow’s journey is going to take him, and Mr. Wednesday, and the New Gods and the Old, to some very strange places. I’m glad that we, and the cast and crew, will have Jesse shepherding us on the way.”
The arrival averts fears that American Gods Season 2 could be un-renewed due to behind-the-scenes issues.
However, the publication notes that the Season 2 episode order could yet be reduced to account for the delay and budgetary increase.
American Gods Season 2 is now expected to release mid-late 2019 at the earliest. Starz claims to be invested in Season 3 and beyond.
Having gained apparent creative ‘stability’, will it be enough to steer American Gods towards Season 3? Stay tuned…
