A timely boost for Zoo as Netflix picks up global streaming rights to the first season, enhancing the animal attack drama’s Season 2 renewal chances.
The deal increases the show’s all-important revenue and global accessibility. Additionally, Netflix will have taken the fact that the first season ends on a cliffhanger into consideration.
It doesn’t guarantee renewal, but with CBS sacrificing Under The Dome it appears – at least for now – to bode well for Zoo Season 2.
The streaming company has also nabbed CW’s Jane The Virgin and USA’s upcoming alien invasion drama Colony. Official press release:
JANE THE VIRGIN AND ZOO COMING TO NETFLIX MEMBERS AROUND THE WORLD
Beverly Hills, Calif., September 28, 2015 – Netflix and CBS announced today an agreement to make Netflix the exclusive subscription streaming home of two hit series, Zoo and Jane The Virgin, in more than 50 countries around the world.
The first season of Zoo is now available on Netflix in the U.S., and in the coming months will be available in all Netflix territories. On Monday, October 12, season one of Jane The Virgin will launch in the U.S., the same day season two premieres on the CW Network. Jane will be available later in 2015 or 2016 in all countries Netflix operates, except Canada.

Zoo is the most-watched scripted summer series of 2015 and is based on the #1 bestselling novel by James Patterson about a wave of violent animal attacks against humans that sweeps the planet. The series stars James Wolk as Jackson Oz, Kristen Connolly as Jamie, Billy Burke as Mitch, Nora Arnezeder as Chloe, and Nonso Anozie as Abraham. The series is produced by CBS Television Studios.
Jane The Virgin is the critically acclaimed series following Jane Villanueva, played by 2015 Golden Globe Award winner, Gina Rodriguez, a working, religious young Latina virgin woman, who becomes pregnant after being artificially inseminated by mistake. The series also stars Justin Baldoni as Rafael, Brett Dier as Michael, Andrea Navedo as Xiomara, Yael Grobglas as Petra, Ivonne Coll as Alba and Jaime Camil as Rogelio.The second season will premiere on October 12 and is produced by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros.
