ITV and PBS have renewed Victoria for Season 3, RenewCancelTV has confirmed.
The third season of the Queen Victoria drama will follow the previously announced feature length episode on Christmas day.
Set in Christmas 1846, the Christmas special sees Victoria uncharacteristically melancholy as she prepares to tackle her first Christmas without her beloved Baroness Lehzen. Pregnant with her and Albert’s fourth child, the festive period reminds her of her lonely childhood spent at Kensington. Albert, on the other hand is gripped by an obsession with staging the perfect family Christmas, transforming the palace into a magical festive wonderland. Tensions arise between him and Victoria, however, when Albert invites some unwelcome house guests to join the celebrations.
Teasing Season 3, series creator, writer and executive producer Daisy Goodwin, said:
Season three will start in 1848 which was a hugely dramatic and eventful time for both the royal family and Europe, with revolutions on the continent and uncertainty around the monarchy. Viewers can expect more drama than ever before in the third series.”
ITV drama chief Polly Hill said of the renewal:
“We’re delighted that the nation has taken Victoria to its hearts. Filled with romance, political crises and family drama, Daisy Goodwin’s scripts bring this fascinating part of history to life so vividly and we look forward to regaling audiences with the next part of the illustrious Queen’s reign.”
EP Damien Timmer added:
“Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes shine as Victoria and Albert and it’s an honour to have them back for a third series, which covers a tumultuous period in our country’s history, filled to the brim with royal scandals, political skirmishes and constitutional crises, as new historical figures enter the saga to challenge Victoria and Albert as never before.”
Following its late 2018 UK premiere, Victoria Season 3 will air early 2019 on PBS in the US.
Sta tuned as we now monitor the renew/cancel status of Victoria SEASON 4…
