In the wake of Unforgotten‘s second series renewal, writer Chris Lang has confirmed plans for Series 3 and beyond.
Explaining the direction of the drama’s sophomore year in 2016, Lang notes there are “endless possibilities” for a third series and potentially more beyond that, per RadioTimes:
“I absolutely adored working with Nicola and Sanjeev, who would obviously be the returning characters. All of the other characters would be new, it would be a new story, a new deeply historical case and I’d just love to spend more time with those people and start to weave another story together. It’s endless possibilities for not just a second but a third too — who knows how many series.
“When I first started, it was a self contained story but quite quickly I got to know the characters and realised that I love these people and I want to know more about them. As a writer you go on that journey with the audience — you’re exploring these people, you don’t know what the future holds for them. It’s incredibly good fun as a writer and I really love the idea of doing more.”
