ITV commissions a second series of Unforgotten
ITV have confirmed that Unforgotten will return for a second series.
The critically acclaimed drama from Mainstreet Pictures, was written and created by Chris Lang and focused on a ‘cold’ murder case of 39 years ago, when the bones of a young man were found beneath the footings of a demolished house.
In this first series, that has gripped ITV drama viewers, Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar took the lead roles as DCI Cassie Stuart and DS Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan, the modern day police team who gradually unravelled deep-rooted and long-forgotten secrets, that had a dramatic impact on their murder investigation and the lives of four potential suspects – Father Robert Greaves (Bernard Hill), Sir ‘Frank’ Philip Cross (Trevor Eve), Lizzie Wilton (Ruth Sheen), and Eric Slater (Tom Courtenay). The slow revelation of these secrets as Cassie and Sunny hunted for the killer altered the dynamic of the suspect’s families and loved ones forever.
ITV’s Director of Drama Steve November and Controller of Drama Victoria Fea have commissioned the new series, which will once again be written by Chris Lang. The executive producers are Sally Haynes, Chris Lang and Laura Mackie.
Steve November today said: “We are pleased with the audience response to Unforgotten and I am delighted to announce that it will be returning for a second series with a brand new story from the writer Chris Lang and Mainstreet Pictures, a winning formula who have kept ITV drama viewers gripped throughout the first series.”
Creator and writer Chris Lang said: “I am immensely excited to be writing a second series of Unforgotten and relish the challenge of introducing a brand new story, where long buried secrets will once again be slowly brought to light.”
Cast and filming dates will be announced at a later date.
BBC Worldwide is the international partner for Unforgotten and the BBC’s commercial arm will oversee the global rights for the series in all territories outside the UK.
