CBS is getting out from Under The Dome. The network has cancelled the serial adaptation of Stephen King‘s novel after three seasons.
The network announced the series will end with its Sept. 10 finale, promising closure to the storyline after deciding not to stretch the plot into Season 4.
Said CBS chief Nina Tassler:
Two years ago, Under the Dome broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world. Dome’s event storytelling and multi-platform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful rollouts of Extant and Zoo. We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester’s Mill as the story comes full circle, with the Dome coming down as dramatically as it went up.”
RIP.

Stupidest thing I ever heard canceling a great show. Maybe if a naked Kardashian would be a guest “Millerian” the network would have gone for a season 4 –
Matthew Whited says
Calling this a great show is the stupidest thing I’ve heard.

You have no imagination ! !!!! NERD
RAYZEE says
The show was originally planned to be a one season filler, then they got greedy and in order to keep it going into the second year, they ended the first with a bunch of butterflies coming out of the lake. Lamest thing since the Sapranos ending. They should have kept to the original tight one year. After we all knew it was being stretched out, the story line just meandered and I stopped watching.
Pam Wickham says
That is our favorite show. Please don’t cancel.

I still can’t work out how this got renewed for season 2?! As for the “successful rollouts of Extant and Zoo” – I have never heard of Zoo & Extant is utter dross. The only reason *that* got renewed is because of Halle Berry.
Rosie says
Please don’t cancel Under The Dome. It is so refreshing to have a show on that isn’t a STUPID reality show. There is much more you can have happen Under that dome. Please Please give it another season.
Terry J says
Under the dome one of the best shows on TV Networks don’t care what Viewers want they do whatever they want to and Tell Viewers to Basically F Off and Cancel Shows that viewers Enjoy….
Kendra says
I agree , they cancel good shows and keep rolling out these reality shows . The only reason the reality shows have next season is because of the star of the show has money to pay for next season .
jack says
Three episodes was to much for me , CBS is perhaps making way for another version /location of a CSI show
lynn says
this really stretched credibility after season 1.
simon hynes says
So glad “Under The Dome” has been cancelled, the 1st series was great but by the 3rd series it had tied itself in knots as the makers/writers attempted to squeeze another paycheck out instead of bringing the story to a natural conclusion
Lea says
Under the dome awesome show, it did get a little repetitious but it’s one of a kind. Please make a season 4 give it more time .
nancy fiorenza says
wow don’t tell me they renewed crappy extant and cancelled this ….I like this show so much better
Paul says
I’ve posted this same remark on a few sights: Hollywood just doesn’t know when to end a show, they keep milking it season after season until the writing becomes thin, the plots are predictable, and as with so many, stray wildly from the original source. Dome was originally supposed to be a 1 season mini-series. It became predictable and has run its course. At least we get closure, not the case with Revolution. I’ve enjoyed the plot twist with Extant, and as for Zoo, this is only the first season. Let’s hope the writers take a clue from Seinfeld and get out while the getting’s good and not milk these shows for a paycheck and the fans are screaming for an end because the writing has become lame.

I can’t believe they would cancel *Under The Dome* I love that show. I wish they would stop cancelling all the good damn shows. Please, give Under The Dome another chance. I mean seriously why cancel it. I mean they even cancelled *Eye Candy* and a few other shows that could’ve continue. If they had a new writer they could make it fresh.
Cindy Nash says
CBS is notorious for cancelling newer programs. I guess some of those educated idiots think everyone watches reality shows… Under the Dome, Reckless, the Millers, A Gifted Man…these were all good shows. I guess it’s cheaper to produce the crappy reality shows, since most of the contestants get very little compensation. Too bad that some of the cable TV stations don’t pick up these shows. I guess the only shows that will stay around are the crappy reality shows that we’re sick of… Or if you’re married to aTV executive, like Julie Chen you can get anything renewed.
Dawn says
Lost interest this season. Too much sci-fi. Loved it in the beginning.
Mickie says
It was good for season 1 and stretched a bit on season 2. This season, it jumped the shark and we lost all interest with the direction the writing was going.
Jamie says
My whole family loves this show. It’s the one show we all sit together and watch. I’m sad to see it’s not being renewed.
Darren says
Should have done another series to tie it up properly too many good shows cancelled early typical
I agree with other people too many rubbish shows get renewed (csi too many of them) these are safe programmes we are bored of. I mean more people read the writers books than any other get real the show is still getting better viewing figures than some shows you are renewing
Christopher Price says
I agree, Under the Dome, was a great show, in the beginning. I believe that networks need to have more shows that entertain rather than reality TV, but in the same instance this one has become pretty far-fetched, but I guess that’s why we watch right? Hey at least I can thank CBS for giving it an actual ending, and not just shutting the whole series off like NBC did with Revolution. Every TV show shoots an alternate ending at the end of their season just in case they get cancelled, and this was definitely the case there. Watched it from the start and very much enjoyed Revolution, it seems like something that could actually happen someday, and I think that’s what kept everyone’s attention, and I know it was a hell of a lot better then America’s Got Talent or Last Comic Standing. Come on give me a break.

Thank you CBS for canceling this show, it started off well, and it was fine when the writing deviated from the original novel, and then…. well it just became so absurd that it was plain stupid. The first season was brilliant, season two left me wanting it to get back to where it was, and season 3, well, season three simply should never have happened. This season left me wondering why I bother to watch at all, it is just all over the place, no central theme, and uninteresting.
Phyllis says
Can’t believe you cancelled this show, it was great. I will really miss it. Is there any chance they will reconsider and bring it back?I hope so.!! I enjoyed every episode.
Matt says
as a die hard fan of the book i am not sad they cancelled this. Strayed to much from the book to the point where i got mad but i will finish it up and see how they end it tomorrow night
teresa says
CBS…you are morons taking under the dome off. Take stupid reality shows off instead
chrissy says
U left it sooo wide open for a season 4 there really was no closure onto what happens this is one of the few shows i watch on cbs i love sci fy
Sarah says
I hope it gets picked up by another network! It was a little far fetched but I still enjoyed it. They did leave the ending wide open so maybe they did do that for someone else to pick it up?? Hope so!!
Kathleen says
I loved the series finale!!! Bring this show BACK!!! I would LOVE to see where it goes given what was in the last episode!!! There are so many directions it could take with what just happened!!! Seriously!!!
I agree, take the ridiculous reality shows off and add more of these!!! Every tv show lags at times, you just rejuvinated it with what happened! Give it another shot!
Mrs. G says
Don’t cancel Under the Dome!!! Sick of all the stupid reality crap.
William says
Please bring under the dome back, I love this show. It actually gave me something to look forward to. Please make another season there’s so much more questions that can be answered. PLEASE!!!
SharpEyedWashington says
I left this show a year ago!
Darleen says
I love this show! Lots of people love this show! The Dome came down, I think the story is evolving so they will rename the show appropriately! Very smart of CBS to get folks riled up with a cancellation!!
Angel says
I really loved the 1st and 2nd season then started losing interest.
Haywood Jablome says
I would hope that with this show and others of it’s genre that the networks would take a three year commitment and limit. Give the series the time to grow and fully play out the story to an ending. Don’t air the season-ending cliff-hanger and then cancel the show without resolution. They should film a final show at the end of each season and show it once they decide to cancel. Limit shows to three years so they don’t end up jumping the shark.
Katherine says
Yes I loved this show also don’t know what I’m going to watch this summer. The reality shows are way to stupid and too many of them on TV or cable stations. Please bring back on.
