Is ABC’s The Proposal the next TV show cancelled following sexual misconduct allegations?
For now, the network has pulled the reality show’s second episode in the wake of sexual assault accusations, per NY Times:
ABC said on Friday that it has pulled the second episode of “The Proposal,” its new reality dating series, after a women accused one of its male contestants of facilitating a sexual assault against her.
In a Facebook post on Thursday that was paired with a photo of contestants from the show’s official web page, the woman, Erica Denae Meshke, wrote, “One of the men pictured here was directly responsible for my date rape.”
In a statement, ABC and and producer Warner Horizon said the matter is “under review”:
“An allegation has been made against a contestant on next week’s episode of ‘The Proposal.’ While the accusation was not related to the contestant’s appearance on the program, we take it very seriously. ABC and the producers of ‘The Proposal’ are pulling the episode while this matter is under review.”
With the axe yet to fall on The Proposal, series creator Mike Fleiss pledged “to do better”:
“For the record, I am horrified that any of these abusive assholes are on our shows. We are working very hard to find ways to do better.”
Should ABC cancel The Proposal altogether? Did the network do enough? Hoping The Proposal survives for Season 2? Stay tuned…
