Mindy Kaling has spoken about the need for the Mindy Project to be renewed for Season 4.
The actress says she’s “hopeful” Fox will renew the comedy for a fourth season but acknowledges that the show has always lived on the bubble of uncertainty, per Yahoo TV:
There has never been a time for our show where people haven’t said those things. I feel like we live on the bubble. I’ve never heard someone say, “This show has nothing to worry about. They are going to stay on for years. They have tenure track.” After Season 1, we got a lot of “There’s no chance in hell they are coming back.” And we did. Same thing for Season 2, so now I focus on making as good a show as I can instead of worrying. I have only ever done a show that I love. I have never had to change anything to try to stay on the air. That is one thing I have in common with my character. I am very cheerful and confident, so I feel very good about our chances for Season 4.
Moreover, Kaling confirms that Mindy Season 3 ends on a cliffhanger which only heightens the need for that all-important fourth season renewal, lest fans be forever left in the pit of frustration:
No [the Season 3 finale wont be satisfying if the show is cancelled]. Listen, I loved our season and I think it is a good finale, but it is a cliffhanger and the people who watch will want to know what happens to these characters.
