Tom Perrotta has confirmed that The Leftovers Season 3 is very much in doubt.
Speaking to IndieWire, the co-creator said there’s currently only an “vague” plan for a third season of the mystery drama, which is uncertain to continue beyond its two-season run:
You know what? We have some vague ideas, but we don’t even know if there will be a Season 3. That’s the question we’re waiting to get answered.
Contrary to recent suggestions, Perrotta insists the lack of traction on Season 3 is down to HBO rather than a specific unwillingness from himself and co-creator Damon Lindelof:
“[We’re waiting to hear whether HBO wants Season 3] or to discuss it with us. I think one of the things is that post-production for the finale has just been wrapped up and people went on vacation. It will all be discussed, but at the moment there hasn’t been a lot of discussion.
Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the status of The Leftovers Season 3…
