Russell and Rhys were still filming the final episodes when we spoke, but they already know how the series ends. She calls the ending “incredibly satisfying… It hits exactly the right tone.” Rhys credits showrunners Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields, who he says are “so incredibly adept at leaving no stone unturned.”

I did not know about The Americans until this year. My internet connection was so bad I couldn’t stream without a lot of buffering. Changed providers and voila! Discovered this show about 6 weeks ago. Streamed the first season then bought the whole series on DVD. I have just today, May 19th, finished the whole series plus Extras.
I am 72 years old and have watched a lot of TV and movies over the years being a devotee of good drama. I have to say the The Americans is the best production I have EVER seen! The writing, the acting, the directing, the zillion moral dilemmas, the intense character studies and development, and the whole point that we are all human with the same wants and needs.
Bravo, bravo, bravo! When I couldn’t sleep during the night for whatever reason, I got my laptop and headphones and streamed whatever episodes were next for me. This show, these people are in my blood now. In my heart and consciousness now.
Thank you for that perfect, though painful in many areas, ending. Thank you for not killing Elizabeth, Matthew, Claudia and Martha. Thank you for giving Martha a child, or children. I wish Nina could have lived. I am sorry Oleg, a really good guy, went to prison. I love these people.
Watching this show, with all its intense drama about America, the FBI, Soviet Union, and KGB, and the regular people and the agents, and the history of The Soviet Union has deepened me, expanded me, broadened my point of view, and increased my compassion for these people, the Russians, whom I grew up believing to be my enemy…the bad guys. Bad guys are everywhere. As are good guys, patriots, and decent human beings. Watching this show so intensely–6 years in 6 weeks made it easy for me to feel the daily struggles of Elizabeth and Philip daily for me.
The Americans has been a huge part of my growth as a human being. I cannot thank you enough.
Please pass these comments on to all the people involved in gifting me in this way.
