ABOUT STRANGE EMPIRE: RISE OF THE WOMEN
“Strange Empire” is a powerful and dynamic drama about three strong and independent women who join forces to seek a new way of life in the perilous and dangerous world of the North American Frontier of the 1860s. At a remote town on the North American frontier, the hopes and dreams of a wide and diverse group of acre to justice.
Katherine Loving and her husband Jeremiah are heading west, towards a better life. In a bittersweet beginning to their lives together, they find themselves at a stagecoach depot, where they use the same preacher and shade of the same tree to bury their dead child and then marry. It’s here that Kat and Jeremiah encounter another couple beginning anew. An unaccredited surgeon, Rebecca Blithely is a brilliant young woman with a vocation and nowhere to practice. Her husband, Dr. Thomas Blithely, grieves the loss of his fi rst wife and has entered into an uncomfortable marriage with Rebecca, his much younger ward. Also at Station House is Isabelle Slotter. Her husband, Captain John Slotter, is a powerful and troubled man, who owns and controls everything in Janestown, a mining camp on the US/Canada border. Founded in greed, Slotter plans to build a branch-line railway, forge an empire and make a fortune on the backs of his workers while Isabelle, a ruthless and Machiavellian con-artist, runs what has become a famous House of Prostitution.
When Kat and her husband thwart Slotter’s plan to collect two young girls as new whores for his brothel, he is enraged. He and his men masquerade as an “Indian” war party and massacre the men in the wagon trail. Under Slotter’s forced suggestion, the vulnerable wives and daughters move to Janestown where they will have few options other than to become whores. At first Kat, Isabelle and Rebecca’s backgrounds and characters sit at polar opposites but, as their resistance to Slotter grows and their need for justice increases, the women form a delicate union that will see them take control and lead the town to keep trouble and corruption at bay. A daily challenge in this dangerous and volatile world. [LMN]

I cannot believe how cbs could cancel Strange Empire after one season? That show was so well written and engrossing with incredibly taleted canadian actors! And this show attests to the fact that you dont need swearing and nudity to make an excellent show! Can this Show not film somewhere else if cbs is so intent on not allowing a second season?

I just finished watching this series on Netflix. Loved it. CBS should be ashamed of themselves for cancelling the show. They finally come up with something that is original and fantastic and they ditch it! I only hope this show fares better in the States and that we can see more of it.

I stumbled on Strange Empire on Netflix and was hooked.
It was a great first season and even my girlfriend liked it.
The acting was great and the script was fantastic.
Sure hope they keep going with this show as it will definitely gain ground in popularity.
TV shows nowadays are very tasteless and aren’t as exciting to watch, this show had it all and CBS should seriously reconsider and do more seasons.

I am so sick and tired getting hooked on good shows and then the network cancels the show because of the ratings. What about the people that do watch the show. Don’t we count ? I really like Empire: Rise of the Women. There have been other shows that I have watched on other networks and they have also been cancelled.

I am dumbfounded that they have seen fit to cancel this series. I waited anxiously for it to begin and was not disappointed, I was hooked from te first episode. It is riveting, well written and with a stellar cast. I can’t wait for each episode to run. Now I find out that it’s canceled? There are so few good shows on TV these days, we finally are treated to one that is excellent, only to have it yanked from it’s faithful viewers. Very frustrating to say the least!

Ratings are crap. A Nielsen executive admitted as much to writer Alfred Bester many years ago that the samples are too small and not statistically varied enough to be meaningful. Today, network executives choose programming based largely on their perception of which social group spends the most money on advertisers’ products. Taste, education, and artistic merit have nothing to do with it.

This series is very intense and the script is well written. Could not stop watching and hope that it’s not true that it’s been cancelled. Please say there will be more episodes. Netflix should take over the production and make things right with the fans.

I just finished Strange Empire on Netflix last night and started looking for a season 2. I cannot believed this great show was cancelled. It was excellent. Please reconsider. If the Canadians don’t like it, we Americans do. Bring the show back please.

Same here! I am finishing up with morning and was feverishly searching for news of S2 only to find out it was canceled! The promotion in the US must’ve been horrible because I had never heard of the show. We keep worse shows going for 10 years.

Liked the show until the writers started pushing the whole lesbian angle. Especially when she said “God made me this way”. No one back then said that. And sexual deviants like that kept their mouth shut. Stop with this progressive agenda. We are tired of it.

Just finished Strange Empire. Loved its raw originality, The series ended where a second season could have easily picked up. Did the writers decide to quit? Was looking forward to Season 2 when I read it hadn’t been decided the show would be renewed. Unless the writers quit, bad call to cancel a perfectly fascinating series. So much history the show can pull from, especially how women, Indians and immigrants were treated back in the day. Short sighted thinking to cancel Strange Empire.

I just finished binge watching this and now I read that its not going to be renewed? This was a great show!! I feel like I’m going through withdrawal here! I feel we are all being left hanging here when Kat saw her husband being carried away. What about Rebeca and Morgan? Izzy has her partial share of the coal mine with her former father in law, there’s way too many loose ends here to quit and not tidy it all up.

I agree so much!! Found this show while surfing for something decent and good to watch! Found it, loved it, and now left hanging! I think I’m swearing off series. This is happening too much! AD After the Bible, American Odessey, Downton Abbey (at least they are giving us a few sessions to tie it up) left us hanging too! Great acting and scripting in Strange Empire and good look into history! At least bring it back with a grand finale and ADVERTISE it!! Have you heard of that? I’m sure you have but you did not promote this show very well. Shame on you!

OK, I actually live in Canada, watch a fair bit of television, and I NEVER saw this advertised! I found it on Netflix, binged on it & am now completely hooked! I agree with many of the other posters, quality, original TV is few & far between and it’s getting pretty tiring to invest in a show only to have it cancelled! PLEASE, “the powers that be”, reconsider bringing this fresh, strong show back! And this time, ADVERTISE IT!!!

This is one of the very few shows CBS has that were good. They don’t know good TV when it is right in front of them. They don’t know how to market for ratings. They should learn from ABC. I am sorry to she this show go. Cast and production were really good.

I came upon Strange Empire Rise of the Women strolling channels on a Sunday morning. I immediately got hooked. Love it. Unfortunately, I had missed the first episode. But since they include past things that happened I was able to somewhat catch up to what was going on. I faithfully watched each one there after. Even if I had to work, I recorded it. Please do not cancel Strange Empire Rise of the Women. It is such a great show with great actors great entertainment. It is so much better then the junk and garbage on TV now. I prefer movies about the old west and new beginnings. I’m hoping there will be a Season 2.

Just found this on Netflix. It’s actually a trippy cool original show. Old West crossed with some magic and quirkyness. Very original and very well acted. Of course the network cancelled. They do that to all the good shows. Come on NETFLIX lets do some more of this. Seems a big hit with all who watch!!!!

I loved this series. If another network is smart enough to bring it back kudos to them. So disappointed in you. And the fact that you are a movie network and all you do anymore is alot of reality tv. Not happy at all. And i pay extra for this channel. You never play older movies either. Not the same LMN i fell in love with. So.disappointed

What we really REALLY need is for Firefly to be brought back at a point in the timeline before Wash and Book died, and then they travel 650 years back in time to meet up with the women of Strange Empire. They take the women with them back to the future (no pun intended) to experience, in essence, the EXACT same environment peopled with hearty womenfolk just like themselves, but with fancy tech and more respect for women. Yes, this should happen.

Man this really pees me off! I just started watching it on Netflix, but decided to check and see if there would a second season, now I find out there wont be! I was really enjoying it too! But even though I see all these people here saying how much they loved it, there are more people on Netflix putting it down, then those saying anything good about it! Which means most likely Netflix wont pick up, unless things change soon, and it gets more viewers singing its praises! I gave it 4 stars, and a great review, but I’m only one person! Maybe if some of those here who loved it who have Netflix would go there and give it great review and 4 stars too, maybe Netflix would give it another chance!
