There will be no third season for Counterpart – at least not on Starz anyways.
The show runner and creator Justin Marks released the unfortunate news on Twitter.
Hey #counterpart fans, a bit of sad news… Starz has decided not to pick up our show for a 3rd season…
— Justin Marks (@Justin_Marks_) February 11, 2019
The final episode of season 2 is set to air on Sunday.
It’s not all bad news though, Marks indicated the studio MRC will be shopping the series around to other networks in hopes that someone picks it up:
Thank you to everyone who made this journey so special for us. Your tweets, podcasts, and intricate conspiracy theories have made it all worthwhile. Fingers crossed that our wonderful studio, MRC, can find a way to keep the dream alive!

It figures another well written drama gets the ax

That’s the problem with STARZ..they have great series..i.e…COUNTERPART..then cancel them…better check your lineups compared to competitors…..GET WITH IT…ASK US…my viewing of STARZ is WAINING
Melissa says
They are not much of a “stick with it” network. (Other than Power & Outlander.) I’ll still never forgive them for canceling “Magic City.” :/
MM says
Yet Starz keep Outlander? Outlander was terrible this year. Take Counterpart to Amazon Prime, please.

The show has high quality acting and drama but more importantly, exceptional WRITING. There are enough changes to the show and the character dynamic to keep things moving in each and every episode and me on the edge of my seat. It explores complex relationships, not only amongst the individual and seperate characters, but also with the individuals characters themselves. Each of them having to see themselves differently and in some cases in a not so flattering light. The characters have to come to grips with who they are and what they stand for, a lot like ourselves but without our having the benefit of such an in your face 3D mirror. It explores how events shape us and how we shape events, in a unique way. It allows viewers to wonder about our own lives and how we react to events. It is so complex, which only adds to the appeal, unlike the simple shows that garner a larger and undeserved following. It one of the few shows for the more cerebral. I am one of many I am sure who is hoping beyond hope that another studio picks this phenomenol show up. I only wish there were a way to show my support for it.
