Shadowhunters will be told over 200 episodes, if executive producer Ed Decter gets his way.
Explaining the show’s transition from novel to big screen and now to small screen, Decter expressed hope that the series has time on its side, 200 hours to be precise, per TVGuide:
It really lends itself to television. It’s really a no-brainer. Even the producers of the film will tell you that if they had to do it over again they would have gone right to television because the world is so big and there’s so many moving pieces. It’s so great to have all that for a television show when you want to have so many hours of it. Hopefully, we have 200 hours of it.
On the book vs show timeline for Season 2, he shared:
We really get details from the other things that Cassandra [Clare] has written. The whole arc of the first two seasons will basically be the first three books. In generalities, that’s what you can expect. Book 2 happens in a week so it wouldn’t be enough necessarily to fill a whole season.
On which new characters will be introduced in a potential Season 2, he told KSiteTV:
We’ve created a character to symbolize the Clave, a new character called Lydia who, again, we got her name from all of Cassandra’s books… but the reason why we created her was, we weren’t going to show Idris and the Clave this season; we wanted something to hold for next season, to reveal a whole new world, so we needed a representative to arrive. With her comes an amazing storyline and an amazing twist in the plot. That’s someone to look forward to. She’s played by Stephanie Bennett.
Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the status of Shadowhunters Season 2 and potentially beyond…
