A Series of Unfortunate Events has been officially cancelled after three seasons. No Season 4 for the Netflix comedy-drama.
A Series of Unfortunate Events was renewed through Season 3 last year, but that will take the series through to its conclusion.
Star/producer Neil Patrick Harris confirmed to TVGuide that ASOUE will not extend beyond its source material into Season 4:
We’re three seasons all in. We’ve intentionally been very truthful and factual and loyal to the books. We’ve added a few characters that aren’t in the books, we’ve added some songs that you probably couldn’t put into the books, but for the most part we’re sticking to the structure of what already worked.”
ASOUE Season 1 adapted the first four books in the 13-book series. Season 2 (releasing March 30, 2018) will cover books five through nine, with the third and now confirmed final season (slated to release late 2018/early 2019) adapting the remaining four books.
RIP.

Three seasons is still pretty great these days. At least we’ll get closure.

Great to see the producers and network doing things right, hewing close to the book, and seeing it through to the end! Bravo Netflix and Harris! You guys have raised the bar!
