Netflix officially cancelled Sense8 and The Get Down in the space of a week, but why? According to Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos, the decisions boiled down to high costs versus relatively “tiny” viewership, per Variety:
“Relative to what you spent, are people watching it? That is pretty traditional. When I say that, a big expensive show for a huge audience is great. A big, expensive show for a tiny audience is hard even in our model to make that work very long.”
Netflix also issued an open letter to fans addressing the cancellation of Sense8.
