– Winning School to be Featured in Spring 2018 Say Yes to the Prom Special on TLC and in Spring Issue of Seventeen Magazine –(Silver Spring, Md.) – TLC’s Say Yes to the Prom initiative is back, and is kicking off the 2018 prom season with its first-ever nationwide contest with returning partner Seventeen Magazine, granting a dream prom, dresses/formal wear, scholarships, internships, and more to one deserving U.S. high school.
The Say Yes to the Prom Contest is open to high school students across the U.S. now through September 29, 2017. Interested entrants are encouraged to visit www.tlc.com/syttpcontest and describe in 250 words or less why their school deserves to win a dream prom.
“As parent company to TLC, Discovery Communications piloted Say Yes to the Prom seven years ago as an employee dress drive and has since grown the program into a nationwide giveback initiative impacting thousands of deserving young women and men,” said Adria Alpert Romm, Chief Human Resources and Global Diversity Officer for Discovery Communications and creator of Say Yes to the Prom. “By launching this contest, we seek to further the reach of this powerful program, offering students a chance to have the prom of a lifetime, and even more importantly, preparing them for their future as they look toward college and careers.”
In addition to bringing an unforgettable prom event to the winning school, TLC will provide a Say Yes to the Prom shopping day for all winning classmates. The shopping day will allow participants to choose from thousands of dresses and formal wear options, accessories and more to create their perfect prom look. As part of the program’s commitment to extend beyond prom, students also will be provided with ongoing educational opportunities designed to prepare them for college and careers. The winning school’s prom event will be featured on-air as part of TLC’s 2018 Say Yes to the Prom special, premiering this spring, as well as in a spring issue of Seventeen Magazine.
“Seventeen is all about celebrating the big milestones in a teen’s life and prom is certainly one of those events,” said Joey Bartolomeo, Executive Editor of Seventeen Magazine. “It’s a special night we think everyone deserves to enjoy and that’s why we’ve happily partnered with TLC and Say Yes to the Prom for the second year in a row. We’re excited to help make one deserving school’s prom dreams come true!”
Now in its seventh year, Say Yes to the Prom has made prom dreams come true for thousands of underserved and academically high-achieving high school students across the U.S. In 2018, Say Yes to the Prom will again bring shopping days and academic opportunities to deserving students as part of a nationwide tour of events. A full list of those events, partners and more will be announced in late 2017. (TLC)
