Filming begins for the brand new series of Robot Wars for BBC Two.
The Robots have descended into Glasgow and are ready for war! Filming begins today on the brand new BBC Two series Robot Wars and we welcome back the original House Robots – bigger, stronger and more brutal than ever before!
Presenters Dara O Briain and Angela Scanlon, pictured on the brand new set of Robot Wars, will be at the forefront of all the action. They will be getting up close with the teams of amateur roboteers as they prepare to battle it out to win the coveted Robot Wars title.
Dara and Angela will also introduce for the first time, the return of the unique and extraordinary House Robots. The House Robots coming back for the new series are Sir Killalot, Matilda, Shunt and Dead Metal. They are the ‘descendants’ of the original show and have been evolved and upgraded to modern-day standards to be even more impressive and even more menacing. Prepare to be amazed by the power and strength of these engineering beasts!
All the Robot Wars action is taking place in a brand new purpose-built fighting arena in Glasgow and filmed in front of a studio audience. The arena will include a raft of technological advances since the show first aired over a decade ago. Viewers at home will be able to get even closer to the action as state-of-the-art cameras will be capturing every crushing, sawing and scorching moment in incredible detail.
As the battles get underway, there will also be a panel of expert judges marking the Robots’ every move. When there is no clear victory, the fate of the winner will lie in their hands.
The three Robot Wars judges are:
Professor Noel Sharkey, a Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at Sheffield University and the only judge to appear in every Robot Wars series; he is also a co-director of the Foundation for Responsible Robotics.
Professor Sethu Vijayakumar, a world-renowned roboticist and a Director at the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics at University of Edinburgh.
Doctor Lucy Rogers, Doctor of Mechanical Engineering and owner of robotics building company, Makertorium; as well as an accomplished author of Its Only Rocket Science.
Robot Wars is a six-part series coming soon to BBC Two. It is produced by Mentorn Scotland, part of the Tinopolis Group, in association with SJP Media.
More details about the series, contestants and the House Robots will be announced in due course.
