PBS’ Religion & Ethics NewsWeekly has been cancelled after a 20-year run.
The final episode will air February 24, 2017, producers WNET/Thirteen have confirmed.
Bob Abernethy, host and executive editor, said:
“It has been a great privilege to report the many ways people of faith worship and serve others. We are deeply grateful to our thoughtful staff and also to our viewers, many of whom have told us the program consistently affirms the values they most respect.”
Added Stephen Segaller, vice president of programming for WNET:
“WNET is honored to have been the producing station for ‘Religion and Ethics NewsWeekly’ all these years. We take great pride in all the awards and accolades the series has deservedly garnered during this time.”
RIP.

Damn! Too bad it was always scheduled in this area when the majority of viewers were in church.
Tom Ganus says
Sad to see the show go. Always an encouraging moment of my week. Why can’t goodness prevail anymore?

I identify myself, in terms of religious belief, as an atheistically-inclined agnostic. But I, too, miss this program, having appreciated it since I first saw an episode a number of years ago. While I knew *we* all die in time, I never believed Religion & Ethics Newsweekly would end. I wish the very best for all who have been associated with the production of this exceptional exercise in broadcast journalism.
RIP indeed!
