Real Time with Bill Maher cancelled? Pressure is building on HBO to axe the talk show after the titular host used a racial slur during Friday night’s show, as Deadline reports:
During a top-of-show chat with Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse, Maher seemed taken aback when the congressman invited him to come to his state and “work in the fields with us.”
Said Maher, “Work in the fields? Senator, I’m a house…” then used the word that drew gasps from the audience.
HBO issued the following statement:
“Bill Maher’s comment last night was completely inexcusable and tasteless. We are removing his deeply offensive comment from any subsequent airings of the show.”
However, the cabler did not state whether the show, which is already renewed through Season 16 in 2018, would be cancelled.
A day after making the comment, Maher said in a statement:
“Friday nights are always my worst night of sleep because I’m up reflecting on the things I should or shouldn’t have said on my live show. Last night was a particularly long night as I regret the word I used in the banter of a live moment. The word was offensive and I regret saying it and am very sorry.”
Will Real Time with Bill Maher Season 16 be cancelled? Stay tuned…

Oh get over your precious self. Maher is not a racist. His use of he word was a joke poking fun at racism and slavery. Political correctness has gone amok.

Leave it to a liberal to say what comes naturally. Without a script to read they will alway revert to their true image. Hope he is cancelled!!

American patriot? American idiot is more like it.

Cancelling show I don’t watch makes room & budget possibly for show I would watch.
Chris Christie is much too socially liberal, but he’s interesting & funny & would make a very good late night talk show host.

The joke was funny and appropriate! My wife and I (both of us are black) howled when we heard the “bleeped” version Saturday on HBO Now. Bill has long been a controversial voice of sanity in this racially divided country and frankly is the primary reason we pay $15 per month to subscribe to HBO. If/when Bill gets cancelled, so will our subscription!

I agree with Mr. Williams. Bill Maher keeps me sane. Yes, it was a tasteless and hurtful remark, but when you place that remark against the hate-filled propaganda that comes out of Fox News and the president every single day, I for one can easily forgive this remark. This country is getting so dangerously close to suffocating from misplaced outrage. Having studied propaganda and realizing how easily our country is being brainwashed day by day by those who know exactly what they are doing and many seem to not even raise an eyebrow. I grew up in the Deep South and when I heard the question about the invitation to work in the”fields”of Nebraska, my own personal reaction was “what fields.” I instantly flashed back to Gone With the Wind, etc. and cotton fields, etc. in the Old South. I could see from Bill Maher’s face he struggled with an answer and he gave an unfortunate one. He hands out equal opportunity insults, I don’t agree with all of them, but the hateful responses are totally out of perspective. If you don’t want to watch his show, then change the channel. Please STAND UP FOR HIM, not for his mistake, but for the need of his kind of discourse. No need for death threats or hysteria to fire him! I am 81 years old, white, and an avid fan, this will not change my opinion one bit. We need him. I would bet no one regrets his mistake more than he does, and NOT because of the calls for cancellation of his show.

I LIKE BILL MAHER SHOW, AND YES HE SAID THE ‘N’ word but I don’t believe he meant it as an racial slur! I also don’t believe his show should be canceled for it. The word nigger is a disgusting word to us black pelope sets us on edge, but we know, are should know we are not the meaning of that word and we need to stop owing it, and using it among ourselves.
If you bothered to watch this epidose of his show you would have seem what he said was not racially motivated.

I certainly hope it is not cancelled. I was quite surprised when that word came out of his mouth, but I did not take it as a racial slur. My impression was that he was making a joke about himself. I have heard Bill make worse and intended negative remarks about women that didn’t get this much attention. Being female, I don’t appreciate it. HOWEVER, I still watch him when I can and I do enjoy the guests that come on his show. I enjoy listening to the spirited discussions and viewpoints expressed. I hope that it does NOT get cancelled. It seems to be the biggest complainers are the ones for whom did not watch the show and have no idea of the context it was used. They just don’t like Bill Maher and they wanted to jump on the bandwagon to hurt him because they disagree with his politics.

So he said the “n” word. He isn’t the first and he won’t be the last. The people who hate all progressives are using it to further their agenda, even if they say it in their own dreams! It’s just a word and he apologized. Everyone should take a chill pill and talk about what matters – stop being diverted into this nonsense!
Bill Maher Asshole says
Bill Maher is a racist. I watched part of his rants about the Fu—- Catholics and was just blown away by it. I can not believe that HBO would allow anyone to speak that way. They may say we do not agree but they still keep the profits from his show and let him continue to spew his hate. I would encourage all people of faith not just Catholics because it will be your faith next to stop paying money to HBO. They allow this hate on there network week after week.
Lawrence Wilson says
Bill Maher represents a rare talk show host, one that tells it like it really is, or often as it should be. He is truly worthy of being the voice of the Silent Majority of Americans who want to be treated as adults not fed pablum.
