Sanditon meets its end.
The Jane Austen period drama aired between August and October this year and starred Rose Williams and Theo James. However, the show could not overcome its poor viewership and has been cancelled after just a single eight episode season.
The cancellation comes before the Sanditon‘s January 12, 2020 US release on PBS Masterpiece.
An ITV spokesperson had the following to say:
“We loved Sanditon and we were very proud to have it on ITV. We would have loved it to return, but unfortunately we just didn’t get the audience that would make that possible for us, which is heartbreaking for everybody involved in this wonderful adaptation. Sanditon is yet to air in the US and we hope they may find a way of continuing with this series.”
Writer Andrew Davies is still optimistic that PBS Masterpiece will commission a second series, so maybe all is not lost just yet.
