Penny Dreadful Cancelled/Ended – No Season 4
If John had never broached the idea of ending the show, David, were you prepared to have a season four or beyond of “Penny Dreadful”?
Nevins: Absolutely. On its own merits this show would absolutely keep going if there wasn’t a creative reason to be done now.
But you knew this was the final season going into it, right? Can you talk about that?
Nevins: We deliberately made the decision not to announce going into season three this was the final season, because given where we knew the season was ending, that would have been a massive spoiler. It would not have felt like the right way to handle this show. If it had been a more conventional show, I think I would have given a little more warning to the audience. But it felt like, in this case, that was the obvious move, but not the bold move.

When did you first know this would be the final season?
Logan: It was midway through season two, about two years ago when I was envisioning season three. I knew at end of season two that Vanessa Ives steps away from God and burns the crucifix and she’s left completely alone without the one thing that sustained her and the one source of strength she truly has — which is her faith. Since the show for me has always been about a woman grappling with God and faith, I thought the idea of her scratching her way back to God and finally achieving some some of apotheosis was the appropriate ending. As the season began to dance about in my head, I realized where it would it was going to have to go and have to end. I thought that was the right end and the graceful end for the character. I discussed it with Eva and then talked to David about where I felt the season was going.

They cancelled Penny Dreadful so I cancelled Showtime in kind…so did many of my friends. That’s the consequences of such moves. It will leave as all open to find other “customer friendly” programs/channels> we’d rather pay for what we want than for what we miss.

I agree, I’m from the UK and the tv packages we get are absolutely shocking. Penny Dreadful was the only show I actually looked forward to watching it is superbly written with formidable acting I will greatly miss this show-and sadly will have my tv switched off as there is nothing else worth watching on this level.

I have decided to turn my Showtime off. They cancelled Penny Dreadful and I love love that show. I don’t think people at Showtime gives DAM about there audience, so i can’t give support to their station anymore
