The CW has cancelled The Originals after the upcoming fifth season. RenewCancelTV has confirmed that the Vampire Diaries spinoff will not survive into Season 6.
Series creator Julie Plec announced the end of the show in a statement:
“I’m packing my bags for Comic-Con, realizing it’s been a year since we announced the end of The Vampire Diaries. It feels only fitting to use this anniversary to make a second farewell announcement. This year, we invite you to help us say goodbye to The Originals, which begins shooting its fifth and final season on Monday.
“It’s both a gift and a burden to be able to control the ending of a series. Join us at Comic-Con and as we move ahead with our final season of The Originals. Celebrate with us, cry with us, visit with us, watch us next spring when we air… and know that in a show about an immortal family who believes in ‘Always and Forever,’ it’s never really the end of the story…”

So I guess the CW wanted to be done with the Vampire shows to make room for more superhero adventures. You might think this network would keep some of its BEST shows on air for variety and to attract a larger audience. Another example of a network that clearly has an image problem. No one should be surprised…..just like CBS! They cancel all their shows (except for NCIS) and fire their actors (Thomas Gibson/Criminal Minds) with the intent of having customers PAY to watch shows on CBS ALL ACCESS! (Star Trek Discovery, etc.) Sad…….

I absolutely LOVE the Originals! Please STOP this cancellation!! the CW has a bunch of crap teenage reality shows and garbage elsewise. I used to commend the CW and WGN for low turnover of their newscasters and good programming, but what happened last year when all the GREAT CW shows went to Ch 50 or Ch 32 in Chicago — people’s DVR;s followed the shows off of WGN! Keep the originals for all the vampire loving spectators out in TVland.

I’m really sad to see the show end. It has been one of my favs that I looked forward to watching. Seems to be a lot of good shows ending. I really hate all the reality crap except DWTS.

Hey everybody, it wasn’t the CW that cancelled it, it was the writer/producer that cancelled it. She’s doing “Riverdale” and I assume the new Sabrina series as well. I agree about ending the “Originals” sucks. I really didn’t care about “The Vampire Diaries”, I had already stopped watching it, but I loved a bloody night in New Orleans.
