Modern Family was recently handed a double-renewal, securing the show through Season 10 — however, that is now set to be the end of the ABC sitcom, per co-creator Steve Levitan.
Speaking to Deadline, Levitan revealed that Modern Family Season 10 will mark the end of the sitcom:
“Our original goal was to just stay on the air,” he told Deadline during ABC’s TCA party. “But after awhile we though we may be in control our own fate, and 10 sounded like a nice round number.” And while they could conceivably go beyond 10 seasons, Levitan said that he expects that the show will end with Season 10.
As for how Modern Family will conclude in 2019, Levitan said there’s a general plan that will continue to take shape over the coming months:
“We haven’t had that exact conversation yet how we want to end the show episode-wise [those discussion will start in earnest as the writers start mapping out the second part of the current ninth season]. We’ve talked about areas that we want to go and tonally what we want to do.”
As the prospective final season of Modern Family was not announced at the time of renewal, it will go down as a cancellation unless the show continues into an 11th season.
Thank God It’s time for it to have closure. I’m sure most of the cast will find jobs

Another great show being cancelled! I’m such a TV addict its to the point nothing will be good on tv any more!
It’s ridiculous. The last 3 shows to be renewed are all pathetic, reality nonsense, and anything decent, such as Modern Family, is binned. I mean “Mama June: From Not To Hot”!! Come on to ffffffff…
As a fellow T.V. addict who has been seeing shows come and go for several years I know that even though it’s hard to say good-bye to shows you’ve loved sometimes for several years there is always great new shows to become addicted to.Whoever coined the phrase all good things must come to an end must have been a T.V. addict!
We still love this show. In fact we keep most of the season on our Tivo and watch episodes a second time during the summer. I’ll admit there have been a couple of slow periods in the past couple of years, but it always picks back up and has us laughing more than any other sitcom.

No biggie, just more left wing PC glurge. Watched the first episode & cancelled any future recordings.
I agree..A show totally dedicated to Agenda..The peoplewho watched are people who happily agree with those agendas..It’s about time it’s cancelled..and Sophia Viagra(or whatever her name is) is just a current version of ‘Charo’..sickening…
another great show down the drain,so it can be replaced by a stupid talk show

Another cancellation that is disappointing and sad. I wish the actors and crew the best with there futures. I’ve really enjoyed watching and I’ll miss this show.
No tv show makes me laugh like this show. I wish they would stay on.
