The How I Met Your Mother spinoff has been delayed for the time being due to writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger being promoted to co-showrunners on NBC’s This Is Us, per THR:
Under the multiple-year pact [with producers 20th Century Fox Television], the duo have been promoted to co-showrunners alongside creator Dan Fogelman on the previously announced second season of the breakout family drama. The duo will focus on This Is Us for the time being and, as part of the new pact, will put their new take on a How I Met Your Mother spinoff on the back burner for the time being. (A network has not yet been attached to the potential spinoff.)
This Is Us has been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3, meaning the planned continuation of HIMYM may not come together for a while yet.
Of course, with no network attached, there’s also the possibility it will get lost in the spinoff wilderness.
Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the status of the HIMYM spinoff series…
