PBS has cancelled Mercy Street after two seasons. No Season 3 for the Civil War-era drama.
The decision to cancel Mercy Street was prompted by a lack of funding and “the complicated nature of aligning production timelines.”
EP David Zucker said of the show’s legacy:
“We sought to bring a time and place to life that is so important to understanding American history, and in a way that was meaningful, authentic and entertaining.
EP David Zabel added:
“Together, we delivered twelve hours of compelling and worthwhile storytelling which we all take pride in. It was five years in the making and we are grateful to PBS for its loyal support.”
There are no plans to shop the series to other outlets.
The second and now final season of Mercy Street wrapped March 5, 2017.
RIP.

March 27, 2017 at 10:26Wrong, wrong, wrong! This is a phenomenal show and I’m truly saddened that PBS does not have enough funding for this show and many others. Too bad we have a “fake” President.

March 13, 2017 at 10:14Can’t figure out why PBS dropped this show, it was excellent, had good characters, great actors and depicted what must have been the lot of slaves at that time and since. I was looking forward to season 3, Shame on PBS!!!

March 14, 2017 at 13:04Mercy Street was a poorly written program. If the producers bothered to do proper research and wrote the scripts honestly, I believe the program could have succeeded. Just to set the historical record straight: James Green was an English immigrant not the second coming of Ashley Wilkes; Green’s daughter Emily and the rest of his family was not in Alexandria during the war, but in Culpeper at one of Green’s many plantations; Frank Stringfellow never tried to assassinate Lincoln; The Green Steam Furniture Works in Alexandria was not open during the Civil War, and never made caskets during the war. There is more false hoods to be debunked but you get the point. Mercy Street was missed opportunity to so something grand and compelling instead of cheap and tawdry. It is a mercy to have Mercy Street killed!
