Italian network Rai has renewed Frank Spotnitz drama series Medici: Masters of Florence for Season 2, ahead of its series premiere later this year.
Per THR, writing is already two months deep on the historical drama’s second season, with production slated for early 2017.
The series, which has yet to secure a US outlet at the time of writing, “chronicles the Medici family and its rise to power and contributions to culture and economic upheaval during the Renaissance.”
Discussing the future potential of the series, Spotnitz told Variety:
Season 1 is really about Cosimo’s journey. In our story we emphasize his love of art and how he used his power and influence as head of the Medici bank to foster the revolutionary art that led to the Renaissance. Season 1 is really the beginning of the revolution and it’s only in future seasons of the series that we would see that revolution truly come to pass.
Stay tuned as we monitor the survival status of Medici: Masters of Florence…
