Major Crimes Cancelled By TNT – No Season 7

October 3, 2017 by RenewCancelTV 40 Comments

Is There Major Crimes Season 6? Cancelled Or Renewed?

TNT has cancelled Major Crimes, with the previously-announced sixth season now serving as the last in the series. The procedural drama will not continue into Season 7.

TNT exec vp of original programming, Sarah Aubrey, said of the cancellation:

“Major Crimes has successfully navigated the many challenges that arise with a spin-off; the primary mission of which is staying true to its core DNA while expanding into unique territory all its own. From Brenda Leigh Johnson to Commander Sharon Raydor, the cast and crew have done a phenomenal job of creating enduring characters – many of whom are celebrating 200 episodes together this season.”

The sixth and final season of Major Crimes premieres Oct. 31, with the two-hour series finale releasing Jan. 16, 2018.

UPDATED with full cancellation press elease:

TNT’s Hit Series “Major Crimes” Concludes with Sixth and Final Season Premiering on Oct. 31, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT)

Two-Episode Series Finale to air on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT)

Television’s beloved squad of detectives will tackle their three final cases when TNT’s hit drama Major Crimes returns for its sixth and final season on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). The series, a spin-off of the critically-acclaimed hit, The Closer, features a stellar ensemble cast headed by two-time Oscar(R) nominee Mary McDonnell. Also starring are G.W. Bailey, Tony Denison, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz, Phillip P. Keene, Graham Patrick Martin, Kearran Giovanni, Jonathan Del Arco, Leonard Roberts, Jessica Meraz and Daniel di Tomasso. This season, the hugely popular crime drama marks its 100th episode milestone on Dec. 19 with the two-episode series finale airing on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT).

“Major Crimes has successfully navigated the many challenges that arise with a spin-off; the primary mission of which is staying true to its core DNA while expanding into unique territory all its own,” said Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT. “From Brenda Leigh Johnson to Commander Sharon Raydor, the cast and crew have done a phenomenal job of creating enduring characters – many of whom are celebrating 200 episodes together this season.”

This year, the series takes a serialized turn as the squad struggles to solve mysteries and murders surrounded by complex political conflicts, attempting to sidestep controversial issues as they track down three lethal murderers. As Cmdr. Sharon Raydor grows accustomed to her new boss, Assistant Chief Leo Mason, the detectives find themselves questioning their faith in the rapidly changing priorities of the justice system and their ability to reason through difficult changes. The emotionally gripping season will treat fans to an array of milestones from celebrations of love to periods of loss. Finally, they must accept the necessity of risk, in all its different guises, as they prepare to face the increasingly undeniable return of Phillip Stroh (guest star Billy Burke).

“The whole company of Major Crimes is dedicated to making 2017-18 the best season yet,” said series creator, James Duff. “We will finish our long run on TNT with a finale worthy of our loyal viewers and their years of unstinting support.”

Since its chart-topping debut in 2012, Major Crimes has consistently ranked as one of cable’s most-watched drama series. In its most recent season and spring run on TNT, the series reached an average 7.7M viewers per episode across linear, VOD, and digital platforms.

In addition to the main cast, Major Crimes features recurring appearances by Jon Tenney as Deputy Chief of the Special Operations Bureau Fritz Howard, Ransford Doherty as Coroner’s Investigator Kendall, Kathe Mazur as DDA Andrea Hobbs, Rene Rosado as Gus Wallace, Dawnn Lewis as Patrice Provenza and Bill Brochtrup as LAPD psychologist, Dr. Joe Bowman.

Created by James Duff, Major Crimes is produced by The Shephard/Robin Company and Walking Entropy, Inc., in association with Warner Bros. Television. James Duff, Greer Shephard & Michael M. Robin, Adam Belanoff, Mike Berchem and Duppy Demetrius serve as executive producers.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT, I am in UK so we get shows later than USA but I look forward so much to the next seasons so was really upset that TNT have cancelled the show. There was a time when TNT was the only station we watched from 6pm UK time every week night and even more at weekends but you are right, what is being left behind is not worth watching. Now only NCIS is the only show we watch on TNT….. they will probably axe that as well after this season ……

TV stations keep on crap like the over sexed and overpaid Kardashians’ and yet a show like Major Crimes gets the boot.

Just goes to prove we have got to start using that remote more
and boycotting the stupid reality shows. Maybe then we can
have a say in what we want to watch.

Finally. Saw this coming. Now I can at long last, DOWNSIZE my satellite TV package. Major Crimes was the ONLY show I still watched on the upper tier I have, since all the previous shows were cancelled over the past 2 years. Just think of the extra money I will have each year…enough to cover my car insurance 🙂
This is exactly why I will not even bother to begin watching a new show every season..no matter how good the trailers look. I’s tired of getting hooked only to have them yank the rug out before the ink on the contracts are dry. Won’t be long now before I will probably just cut the satellite and go to watching boxed sets and movies on DVD..heck of a lot less money spent annually.

First off, you’re paying way to much for upper tier if it’s enough to cover your car insurance. I have the next level up on Spectrum and it only added $20/mo to my bill. I used to think that was a lot.
Secondly, I hear you on the new shows. I’m more surprised when a new show I like, actually gets past the first 13 episodes.
And thirdly, since TNT stopped covering NASCAR. And like you, this was the last show I was watching on TNT.

It’s time! The writers seem to be running out of ideas, or skill when it came to the stories.
Politics was taking over the storylines. It was less about the actual business of crime,
and law enforcement. And more about social issues. The first few season were excellent.
But, its been down-hill for the last two or three seasons.

My guess for cancellation most of the recurring actors are over 35.

Unless there are contractual issues, TNT has NO reason to cancel this show. The ratings have been good and as many others have stated the writing is great and the cast excellent. When TNT cancelled Rizzoli & Isles – the #1 scripted drama on cable tv – it was clear Major Crimes was next. I believe TNT does not want to spend the money on scripted shows and has opted to go 24/7 Reality instead.
For a short period TNT seemed to be competitive with major networks and had some quality programs. Now they have nothing. When Major Crimes has completed its run I will be done with TNT. It’s a shame, really.

Your really making an unwise decision in my opinion! Good luck keeping any loyal watchers on this station, because I have stopped even watching the channel when the executives make such ridiculous decisions to cancel one of the only great shows they have!!

Major Crimes is one of my top three shows. I am dumbfounded as to the reason for the cancellation. The political aspect of the show is no reason to end it. In fact it’s a regular part of Blue Bloods and it’s a part of everyday life. It makes the show more realistic. You’re ending this wonderful show without cause! Solid writing, an incredible ensemble cast and a large, loyal fan base…what more do you want from a show? I’m bewildered and sad and a little angry. Save Major Crimes, please!

I love everything about Major Crimes and I’m sick of network execs who fail to support a show & then think something younger flashier & louder to be the ticket to propelling a network ahead of the rest. I want beloved characters & great dialogue & stories. Take your flashbangs & expeditiuosly shove them.

if you’re not between 18-49 don’t bother complaining because the networks don’t care…if you are between 18-49 you probably watch mindless “so called reality” shows because classy well acted dramas don’t leave time for tweeting about hot chicks on the bachelor or dancing with unknown “stars” or voting for some no talent singer on idol….

We are behind USA in getting Major Crimes. I just learned through a search for when season 7 will be aired in UK and am dropped it. In the UK it has a massive following and I know all my friends in USA and worldwide just love the show. Is there any way TNT would reconsider, with such good viewing figures and the money they make distributing this show worldwide it has to be worth going on. I assumed at the finale of season 6 that sending Russ off for his detective training that it meant that when season 7 commenced he would be a detective taking the space left behind with Julio Sanchez transferring out of Major Crimes, a whole new chapter ……… If any relevant people read these comments then I hope they reconsider as I am sure the cast would all be up for it and as a previous person stated “it is timeless”. I remain ever hopeful……….
