Idris Elba has restated his hopes for a one-off Luther special while ruling out a fourth season, per Digital Spy:
“I am desperately trying to make that happen,” Elba said.
“I think we’re gonna probably do one more incarnation on TV. But not a season – a one-off.
“There’s a story idea but no script yet. But we’re gunning to do it at the end of this year. There’s a lot of pressure from everyone to make it, so we’re gonna do it.”
Meanwhile, THR reports that FOX are developing a US remake of the UK crime drama:
The network has handed out a hefty put-pilot commitment to Luther, an adaptation of the BBC’s Emmy-nominated drama series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Fox’s remake is based on the format created by Neil Cross and centers on John Luther (Idris Elba), a detective dedicated to solving crimes who finds his commitment to his duties both a blessing and a curse.
Cross is on board to pen the script and executive produce the Fox take, which hails from 20th Century Fox Television, Chernin Entertainment and original producers BBC Worldwide Productions. Chernin’sPeter Chernin, Katherine Pope, BBC’s Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner and Elba are also attached to executive produce.
