HULU NABS STREAMING RIGHTS TO BLINDSPOT AND LUCIFER
March 24, 2016Licensing Agreement with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution
Includes Exclusive Streaming Rights to Series Rizzoli & Isles, Smallville and More
SANTA MONICA, CA (March 24, 2016) – Hulu today announced a multi-year, multi-series deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution that includes the acquisition of the exclusive streaming video on-demand rights to the top breakout dramas of this broadcast season, Blindspot and Lucifer. In addition, Hulu will have the streaming premiere of all past seasons of top-ranking cable drama Rizzoli & Isles, as well as fan-favorite series Smallville and Southland – all of which will become available to stream exclusively on Hulu’s No Commercials and Limited Commercials subscription plans over the coming months.
The deal will make Hulu the exclusive U.S. streaming home to all episodes of season one of Blindspot following its run on NBC, as well as future seasons of the hit series. Blindspot is created by Martin Gero, who executive produces along with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Mark Pellington and Marcos Siega. The series is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Starring Sullivan Stapleton, Jaimie Alexander, Rob Brown, Audrey Esparza, Ukweli Roach, Ashley Johnson and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Blindspot follows a woman (Alexander) with no memories of her past, who’s found in Times Square with her body covered in intricate tattoos. Igniting the interest of the FBI, the clues hidden inside her tattoos reveal a larger conspiracy of crime, while leading her closer to discovering the truth about her identity.
Hulu has also acquired the exclusive U.S. streaming rights to all episodes of the new drama series Lucifer. Currently in its first season on FOX, Lucifer is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television in association with Warner Bros. Television. The series is based on characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint and executive produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, Joe Henderson, Ildy Modrovich and Len Wiseman. Hulu will be the exclusive U.S. streaming destination for viewers to catch up on all past episodes of the series. Starring Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro, DB Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Scarlett Estevez, Kevin Rankin and Rachael Harris, Lucifer is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, Lucifer Morningstar (Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles, where he teams up with an LAPD detective (German) to help punish criminals.
In addition to current hit broadcast series Blindspot and Lucifer, Hulu will premiere past seasons of one of the top-performing cable programs, Rizzoli & Isles for the first-time ever on a streaming service. Seasons one through five will stream on Hulu beginning this April, and future seasons will be available to stream on Hulu following their season run on TNT.
Additionally, popular library titles from Warner Bros. Television including The O.C., Southland and Smallville will also become available to stream on Hulu. All episodes of The O.C. will become available to stream in April, and Southland and Smallville will make their streaming premieres exclusively on Hulu later this year.
“We are honored to announce that, in our first licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Television, we will be bringing two of the year’s biggest hits, Blindspot and Lucifer, exclusively to Hulu,” said Craig Erwich, SVP Head of Content, Hulu.
The new deal further expands the Hulu and Warner Bros. relationship. This year, Hulu premiered event series 11.22.63 produced by Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, from executive producers J.J. Abrams, Stephen King, Bridget Carpenter, Kevin Macdonald, Bryan Burk and star James Franco. Library films JFK and Thirteen Days will also be added to Hulu’s library of programming later this year through the new licensing agreement.
