TLC and Investigation Discovery Acquire Rights to U.S. Premieres of Killer Women with Piers Morgan
— Limited Series Created by Plum Pictures Debuts on TLC on July 8;
Encores on Investigation Discovery Beginning July 12 —(Silver Spring, Md.) – Today, TLC and Investigation Discovery (ID) announced the acquisition through Hat Trick International of Plum Pictures’ two-part series KILLER WOMEN WITH PIERS MORGAN. In each episode, journalist and presenter Piers Morgan travels to meet one of America’s most notorious killers for in-depth conversations in a quest to discover what drives some women to kill.
With incredibly personal access to three different women serving time in Texas and Florida, Morgan delves into the details of each crime, talking to family members, law enforcement, defense attorneys, prosecutors and those most involved in each case, often returning to the very scene of the murders. KILLER WOMEN WITH PIERS MORGAN will premiere on TLC on Friday, July 8 from 8-10 PM ET/PT with two weeks of consecutive encores on ID beginning Tuesday, July 12 from 8-9 PM ET/PT.
In the first episode, Morgan travels to Gatesville, TX to meet Erin Caffey, who at age 16, committed a crime that nearly defies comprehension: she plotted to kill her entire family. Speaking with Erin at her maximum security prison, where she is serving a life sentence, Morgan has difficulty reconciling the nearly child-like woman in front of him with the portrait of a monster who murdered three of her family members. Morgan also interviews Erin’s father, who survived the attack, as well as friends who paint a picture of a sweet, church-going girl and a counselor who calls Erin “the best liar I’ve ever seen.”
Episode two features two stories of women who killed someone they love. In August 2008 in rural Florida, Amanda Hutton calls 911 saying her daughter, Adrianna, drowned in the pool. But was this an accident or a punishment taken too far? Piers travels to the scene to reconstruct the two different version of the story and talk to those involved in the case. As this “did-she-or-didn’t she” story unfolds, Amanda’s conviction depends on the gut-wrenching testimony of an eye witness … her 7-year-old son. Then, Piers travels to Texas to interview Rhonda Glover, who was convicted of killing her wealthy boyfriend, Jimmy Joste, in cold blood. Was Rhonda defending herself from her stalker or was this a cold, calculated crime?
KILLER WOMEN WITH PIERS MORGAN is a co-production between Piers Morgan and Plum Pictures for ITV. Piers Morgan and Plum’s Managing Director Stuart Cabb are executive producers. Plum Pictures are represented internationally by Hat Trick International who brokered the sale to TLC & ID. Piers Morgan is a client of The Alternative.
Stay tuned to find out whether Killer Women wields into a second season or remains a two-part documentary series…
