Home Fires Season 3 will happen, but it wont be televised. The cancelled ITV series will instead continue in novel form after Bonnier Zaffre acquired three books from show creator S Block.
Eleanor Dryden, publishing director of Bonnier Zaffre, said:
“In response to overwhelming demand from fans of the series, Bonnier Zaffre is thrilled to be taking this compelling story forward in novel form. Each one of the extraordinary, inspiring, flawed, and courageous female characters of Great Paxford’s Women’s Institute captured my heart, and these are exactly the stories we need more of! Block’s writing is completely addictive and I feel very lucky to be publishing these books in such an exciting way. It’s also a real honour to be working alongside the passionate champions of the ‘Bring Back Home Fires’ campaign.”
Block added:
“I was all set to take my cast of characters through the next few months of WWII when the show was cancelled by ITV. Their stories were all planned. The remarkable and totally unexpected reaction of fans of the show on social media was as extraordinary as it was moving – within a few days 20,000 people had signed a petition asking for the decision to be reversed. And it showed me I needed to continue telling this story. Fortunately, Bonnier Zaffre felt the same, and a unique partnership has emerged where – for the first time in our knowledge – a saga initiated on television will be continued in a series of novels, with the plot developing just as planned.
“Those familiar with the TV show will be able to seamlessly continue with the books; while those new to the world of Home Fires will swiftly find themselves brought up to speed and immersed in the stories of the women of Great Paxford.”
Are you disappointed Home Fires will not continue on the screen, or can you make do with the upcoming books?

I’m a guy and I liked the show. Watched it while walking in the treadmill.

Yep, really good stuff. Regular TV is quite boring these days.

Totally sucks…I liked that show…

My husband and I watched it loved it too. It has wonderful actors and actresses and great themes associated with current issues, although the setting and background is in our parents; era. It is cruel to cancel the show.

So disappointed. Left us all hanging. Loved this show. Please bring it back.

How could anyone be so stupid to cancel this show. It was a breath of fresh air with all of the moronic crap on TV
Jim says
Ditto

Agreed! Just finished season 2. I just can’t believe they won’t continue with it on TV.

This cancellation is the most outrageous I have ever seen. The series was so totally involving with crucial situations that reflect on today. Talk about the importance of the past and its similar patterns to today’s world. What was in the minds of those ITV people who cancelled the show?? THe idea of novels written to continue the show is ridiculous and insults the millions of fans who looked forward to the next week’s saga. What were those who cancelled the show thinking? They obviously have no respect or concern for their faithful audience. Miserable decision, despicable decision. May you fail in any further endeavors. This is beyond the pale.

I loved Home Fires and looked forward to watching it every Sunday! I was totally surprised when I saw it was cancelled. I don’t understand why PBS pulled the plug on it. Just like I don’t understand why they cancelled Mercy Street. Both are great shows with wonderful scripts & actors.

I agree with every sentiment already written! With all the mundane idiotic television out there, I was relieved to experience something fresh, well written and engaging!
The women of the cast were spell-binding! I was entranced with each one for their character and strength! Showing how a community can work together and never say “DIE” was inspiring!
I was so enthralled with the story fully preparing to stand up to “BOB” and back up my girl, Pat!
How could you take this away from us! The only character I wanted to never see again was “BOB”!!!!!
What a terrible decision to remove this work of art!
Becky says
I agree with all the above comments. Heartbroken and down right angry! Bring it back!!!
Jim says
Sometime I think they wouldn’t know a work of art if they fell over it.

Recently discovered this show through amazon. Please bring this show back! So much more to know. Hate the idea of the books because the cast is so awesome!

Sometime I think they wouldn’t know a work of art if they fell over it.

Just finished my binge-watching of both seasons.
Can somebody … ANYBODY … Netflix or Hulu or cable TV (AMC??!!??!!) get the rights and pick up this series, hopefully with as many of the original cast as possible?
As others have said it is an incredible shame to allow such a beautiful produced and wonderfully historic and entertaining series tossed on the heap, especially since there are is little on TV worthy of bothering to watch.
