Showtime has cancelled freshman comedy Happyish after one season.
The cabler has decided not to move forward with Happyish Season 2 due to low-ratings and acclaim.
Per THR:
Happyish —created, written and executive produced by This American Life‘s Shalom Auslander — saw Steve Coogan replace the late Philip Seymour Hoffman — and open to an unimpressive 430,000 total viewers.
The series launched to mixed reviews and failed to crack the Emmy nominees this year. Nevins, for his part, has always been patient with ratings provided the cabler’s original scripted fare breaks through come awards season.
For Showtime, Happyish marks a rare miss for Nevins, under whom all of the cabler’s originals have gone on to sophomore seasons. T
RIP.

What a shame! We love Steve Coogan (have you seen “Hamlet 2?) and had the chance to see the 1st episode of this series while on vacation (we don’t have cable tv at home) and loved it! We are waiting for it to appear on amazon so we can buy the 1st season. So sorry this didn’t work out — especially after they reshot it with Coogan replacing Hoffman.
