After two seasons, the graveyard awaits Gravity Falls — but a revival is not beyond the realms of possibility, according to creator Alex Hirsch, per EW:
“There’s a possibility [of a Season 3 comeback.]
[A revival] is not inconceivable. One day we might return to this world; it has such rich characters. With some time away from it, there’s possibility for a special. I think when people watch the final episode, they will see threads in that episode that one could imagine could be addressed in some future form, like in a comic or a special. Right now I am content with what it is, but I cant speak for future Alex.”
Despite leaving the hatch open for a potential return, Hirsch reiterates his view that the series has a limited life-span:
One thing to keep in mind is that I did this because I love the show. When I very first pitched the show, I pitched it as: This show has only a few seasons — just one summer, a few big questions that have answers, and once you get them, that’s it. … It’s more important to me to do something I believe in and am proud of rather than trying to stretch it out.
Stay tuned as we monitor the cancellation graveyard to find out whether Gravity Falls rises for Season 3…
