Syfy has cancelled Ghost Hunters after its upcoming 11th season, RenewCancelTV has learned. The network has decided not to continue the paranormal reality series into Season 12.
Lead investigator Jason Hawes broke the news in a statement on Facebook:
With heavy heart we want to inform everyone that we are choosing at this time to end our relationship with SyFy channel. Season 11 will be the last season we will do Ghost Hunters ‘With the Syfy Channel’. We’ve been one of their top rated and top watched shows since TAPS and Pilgrim Films decided to join forces and create the show Ghost Hunters. You all have been wonderful and your support has made the show Ghost Hunters such a huge success, As well as changing our lives in all incredible ways. There are some huge things in the works with TAPS, Ghost Hunters, Pilgrim Films and so much more.
It’s currently unclear whether Ghost Hunters could resurrect for Season 12 at a new network, but Hawes has hinted at the prospect of “more” (whatever that may be) to come:
I wish I could share more with you now, But I can’t. Hopefully real soon though! I promise we will keep you all up to date with what is coming up in the near future.

RIP.
Stay tuned for updates should Ghost Hunters ever return from the dead…

Ever since “flash lights” were introduced, as a spirit device, a lot of viewers have been turning the show off. Also when something interesting is thought to be happening, a commercial comes on.
There are many other paranormal programs on now, and people are looking elsewhere. I’m a skeptical person and always viewed the show with a truck load of salt.
Maybe some great entertainment, at times, but with all the differences among the cast members, and viewers disappointment, it’s time to say bye, and hopefully someday, there will be a show that even a skeptic might be surprised by.
Yes I do think there’s ghosts/spirits , but there has to be more shows where just everyday people are on and have REAL evidence. Raw footage and EVPs. Let’s have true science behind it, let’s seriously explore, without back biting, drama and viewers left with a ho hum attitude.

No! This has to do with a network , trying to promote movies , over non – fiction series! GH has been unfairly treated, with too many shows promised, then dismissed. Remember when GH produced Halloween specials? Fans were patiently waiting for the next GH, and nothing happened!!! All casts have personality management troubles, gawd that’s life!!! If anything GH has been careful not to show every “orb” or dust particle!!! Read the statements & posts on FB please!!! before you make statements outta left – field!!!!
Adarious says
Really? Unfairly treated? I’m happy to see this go. It was the ‘ooh! dude did you hear that…it must be paranormal!’ .. ‘no man, I just farted’ series. Sorry, but this series was a load.

When Grant left it was the beginning of the end!

I enjoyed the show in Ireland though, I have to say, there were moments when I was really enchanted by their findings.

Ghost Hunters was the original…the one that paved the way for literally dozens of similarly themed shows. The first few seasons with the original cast (Jason, Grant, Steve, Brian and Donna) was pretty remedial but it was also the best the show ever was. Once they began tinkering with the cast and, finally, when Grant pulled up stakes and Jason started bringing his daughter along for the ride, the handwriting was on the wall. The cast of characters was no longer very interesting and show itself red-lined. The last three seasons have been awful. And whoever convinced these guys that the flashlight trick (a charade that’s been debunked more times that I can count) should be a centerpiece of the team’s investigations should be hung up by his or her Buster Browns. I will miss the show since over 11 seasons, you feel like you’ve gotten to know these people pretty well, but I won’t miss the content which had completely bottomed out.

I am VERY disappointed. There are so few good programs as it is. The network will be unlikely on in our home. My family just doesn’t need or enjoy blood and gore movies.
Mary says
I agree. GH is well done without a bunch of BS hype. I felt like I have gotten to know all of the TAPS team and they will all be very much missed. Thank you for your integrity, the TAPS team is the best!

dianna, we’ll certainly monitor the cancellation graveyard in case Ghost Hunters does return for Season 12. In the meantime there’s still Season 11 to go, which starts August 3.

The SyFy Network SHOULD have gone out of their way to treat the “Ghost Hunters” crew with the respect that they deserve and treated them well and kept them happy.
INSTEAD, for these last few years they have chosen to DISRESPECT them AND their loyal viewers.
They not only made the seasons shorter and shorter, they made us wait MONTHS in between them.
The “Ghost Hunters” crew AND their viewers did did not deserve this.
“Ghost Hunters” was really one of their flagship original programs that garnered a HUGE following and got a LOT more people watching this channel.
And not only did the “Ghost Hunters” team draw in viewers — it garnered RESPECT in a field that, until they came along, had only been considered a joke.
And, sure, NOW there are lots of “Johnnie-come-lately” investigating programs on both SyFy AND various other networks but NONE of them — not even ONE — has earned enough respect and trust that the U.S. Military has asked them to come and investigate so many of our military bases and federal landmarks, such as Pearl Harbor.
So shame on the SyFy Network for not recognizing what a prize that they had AND for their disloyalty to the people that brought so much success to a fledgling network when it so badly needed it.
I am glad that Jason and his crew have found somewhere else to go and that they already have great plans for the future. I hope that their new partnerships recognize their value and treat them better than SyFy has done.
I will watch the upcoming Season 11 come August and when it comes to an end I will sign off from SyFy for the last time and I won’t look back.
“Ghost Hunters” is the show that made me a regular viewer and led me to become fans of “Warehouse 13” and “Haven.” I’ve not enjoyed watching any of their other shows so once “Ghost Hunters” signs off so will I.
And I will look forward to following Jason and his crew wherever they go and watching their investigations for as long as they make them available.

My husband & I have watched Ghost Hunters from the day it started. We love the show & are saddened by the cancellation. Why are you canceling yet another good show? We are disappointed in Syfy channel. We loved the old line up Ghost Hunters, Ghost Hunters International, Warehouse 13, Haven, just to name a few. Your Syfy has gone so downhill that after Ghost Hunters Season 11 is over, we will be over with Syfy! Your programming stinks!

Ghost Hunters is the most real show to believe in. I’ve had experiences in the pass when I lived at my parents home. This house is over 100 yrs old with a history. However; the history was my relatives of the past. I even saw a full body spirit of the lady in a long white dress. Because of your show I felt no fear.
I learned to respect the spirits. I kept that knowledge with me no matter where I go. I maybe a sensitive. I will always be glad GH was on TV for great knowledge of the spirit world. We will miss you all. Bless you & yours.
Karen says
Extremely disappointed! I have always loved GH and the crew! It’s like the “grand fathers” of ghost hunting and I really hope you will change your mind!!
Syfy….You will not regret! Too many loyal watchers!!

I have to AGREE with everyone, who is upset by the SyFy channel, cancelling all the GREAT Paranormal Shows that they once had! I use to enjoy ALL the Paranormal Shows that they had!!! So typical, as with MOST TV Channels, that once a show, or type of Series, takes off, they kill it somehow!
They need to FIRE ALL the Idiots at SyFy, and bring back decent programming, instead of all these “B” and mostly “D” movies that they consistently show! Sharknado? REALLY? Come On People, with in the Hell are you all thinking!
People are MORE intelligent than what YOU ALL think! Pull your heads out of your A$$’s right away, before you end up losing a Station!
Kelly says
The show had run its course, and then some! What’s disappointing is not the show’s cancellation, but the fact that Jason Hawes fell victim to maintaining the ‘show’ through less than ethical means. Early in the series there are episodes where Jason is extremely skeptical of any evidence of paranormal activity, to the point of causing significant debate within the team. Over time, Jason’s behavior had morphed to the point that any floor or wall creak, or inadvertent noise caused by the team or production crew was sure fire evidence of the same paranormal activity that he had staunchly denied during the show’s beginnings. The reality is that at no time during the entire series did they ever discover proof of the after-life. Had that happened, the news would have spread across the world like wild fire. Someone commented earlier on the collar tugging incident and how it led to them becoming a ‘believer’. How sad and how gullible. Clearly, this was a parlor trick that I wouldn’t have believed Grant capable of until the live TV moment when it occurred. Again, similar to the way that Jason began declaring places haunted at the drop of a hat, the pressures of maintaining ratings must have led to Grant’s own unethical behavior. Super nice guy at a super low point of his life. The show was pure entertainment for entertainment’s sake. Personally, I felt the high point of the show was during its inception when you could count on Brian’s melodrama and Donna’s cute but quirky behaviors. In the end, the show had lost I much of what made it entertaining in the first place. Hopefully, Jason will sail off quietly into the night and return to what he was good at, fixing plumbing problems.

I have watched the show since the beginning. Sorry to see it go. Maybe another channel will pick it up, like Destination America.
Linda Hornberger says
I agree with almost all the comments. The only SyFy show I watched was Ghost Hunters. Now that it is off, I too will not be watching that channel. I also agree that I enjoyed the cast from about season 5. Even when Grant left the cast (enjoyed his contributions), and missed him in the following seasons, I still enjoyed watching the show and would go through withdraw in between seasons. I wish the best for ALL the cast, and hope to see them on another network.
James says
I my self like Ghost Adventures which is going into 13 seasons how can Ghost Hunters be leading the way if Ghost Adventures has been on 2 seasons longer
Also much of the originals got fired or left that looks bad and to bring in your own family in instead of people with a different point of view should have been in the show
I will still watch Ghost Adventures.
ZombieGoose says
Ghost Hunters was a joke!! Barely no scientific equipment or proof….walking around with flashlights and completely confusing the viewing audience as to what their agenda was. Furthermore they would put down other shows legitimate techniques to acquire paranormal evidence, yet they themselves were unprofessional and lax in their techniques. Pitiful…glad its cancelled…what a yawn fest. RIP to a crap show
Barb says
i loved GH the cancellation is stupid. they started the whole gendre. i dislike alot of other shows.. the one with ZB irritates me. stupid egocentric jerk,…i watch on you tube or destination america. i love GH no respect for the channel or theyre craap..to the team you are MY favorite!!

I would love to see Steve , and his side kick go off , and star their own ghost hunting show , because really I thought they were really the ones that brought more to the show than anyone else , I do agree that Jason really was debunking more than anything also when they did find anything paranormal he would say that is not to say that there is any thing paranormal here ! He kind of took the wind out of your sails !
