Ioan Gruffudd has responded to Forever‘s cancellation with a heartfelt message to the show’s fans via Instagram:
My dear friends, fans, supporters.
Tonight, as you all now know, I received a phone call that I was hoping not to receive, and to be honest I really wasn’t expecting it. I knew the numbers hadn’t been great, but I also knew the studio and the network both loved the show, and of course that it had an incredible fan base…so I thought we were in with a pretty good chance.
But sadly no, this time the cards weren’t dealt in our favor. Show business is like that. Hell, life is like that. You ride to the top of the wave and then you come crashing down again. I asked Alice to send out the sad news because I was a little bit shaken up and needed time to gather my thoughts.
So I sat down and started reading the thousands of Tweets in response to the announcement. And the more I read, the more I couldn’t believe it. The love, the sense of solidarity, the hope, the kindness, the support. Not just for the show, but for each other. And slowly I began to focus on what we had gained in the past year, rather than what we had lost in the last five minutes. I was overcome by a sense of gratitude. To have met you all and to have you all rooting for me and the show. At having a chance to play the role of my dreams, even if it was only for a year. To have been given the chance to bring Henry to life.
Watching the interaction of the FOREVER fans come together and share their love for the show has been breath-taking. It was you guys who held me up when I thought I could no longer go on. (Those days were LONG!) You made me smile when you pointed out the little things I did on screen that I thought had gone unnoticed. You gave me confidence when I accidentally found myself reading less than shining reviews. You were always with me, every step of the way, waving your flags, shouting your support for the show. It’s been an incredible, wonderful year, one that I will never, ever forget.
And guess what? The memories belong to us. We get to keep them ‘forever!’ Thanks again a million times for your unwavering support. Stay strong, be brave, and show kindness as often as you can!

I agree with you 100%. I loved the show and I think they should re consider cancelling the show. I’m not Happy as most of the crappy shows are continued on to the next season. 🙁

They cancel a good show like this and bring back The Muppets.
Another network should pick this up.

Please try to get this renewed. I loved the show and it left us with a cliff hanger that we wanted to see. I want it back. I may stop watching the network since they keep canceling shows I like.

I can’t believe this show has been cancelled due to the fact that the main demographic for all shows is 18-35. I’m in that range, my wife is in that range… I don’t understand why the companies who buy ad space rule. Well of course I understand it, but why can’t you keep on a show that would have the chance to build an even more loyal following. Anywho I have always been a fan of Ioan, but now have a newfound respect for the passion, devotion and just all around conduct of Mr. Gruffudd. Great job on a great show. Good Luck and let’s hope Netflix/Amazon/Hulu or whomever would pick this dandy of a show up.

I do not watch much television, because there is not much on anymore worth watching. I saw the first episode because it sounded interesting, I am hooked. My son even likes to watch it. Please bring this show back, it has class to it that most tv shows no longer have.

Thanks to all involved with Forever a great show all round , i looked forward to seeing each new episode and it saddens me that ABC don’t have the foresight to endure with Forever with the right programming jn stead of on/of breaks (which is a pain for many programs) this show could go on FOREVER ……. at least more than one season

Are you serious? I can’t believe you’re canceling FOREVER. My girls moved to another State and we talk every week after the show airs and talk about the show and life. This show opens up a lot of great topics for conversations with my 20 and 24 year old girls. It’s hard enough to have something in common with your children this show has it all. Mystery, science fiction, love story, comedy, family values, drama, it keeps you wanting more. And most of all a CAST that’s entertaining. What is a television show suppose to do? Keep you wanting more? Keep you in your seat? Keep you home, watching live? We can’t wait each week to watch. We record it while we watch it. And will watch it again to see if one of us missed something. Please! Please! Reconsider canceling this series. Take a poll you’ll see the viewers want it renewed. Hurry before some other network signs one of the cast members to another series.

Forever Was great. ABC is nuts. I have decided to watch the shows I have been and will not invest in any new tv shows. Tired of great new show being shortchanged.

This is really sad 🙁 Forever was one of the last few great shows left on TV! Lately, it seems that all the great shows are being cancelled. I really wish that some other network will pick it up or maybe Amazon/Netflix…

Forever a great show. Given another show could be another Castle. Could make the network a ton of money. I’m older than the 18-35 age bracket. My favorite shows are/were Castle, Blue Bloods, Jeopardy, Forever, Antiques Roadshow. I find that I
watch most of my tv on ABC and HBO
