Los Angeles, April 6, 2017 – E!, the global pop culture powerhouse, announced today the network’s acquisition of “People’s Choice Awards.” E! will be the exclusive home of the popular annual award show that celebrates the best in pop culture and is voted on entirely by fans, in addition to taking over “People’s Choice Awards’” vast digital, social and voting platforms. E! will air the “People’s Choice Awards” starting in 2018 with its 44th annual installment to be produced by Wilshire Studios, the team behind E!’s signature “Live from The Red Carpet.” “People’s Choice Awards” will air globally across E!’s 17 international channels reaching 153 countries in 24 languages.
“Rooted in pop culture and celebrity, the ‘People’s Choice Awards’ is a natural extension for E! and we are excited to evolve and supercharge this fan-centered event for the next generation in a way that only E! can,” said Adam Stotsky, President, E! “Over two decades ago, E! created the red carpet experience and became the leading destination for fans on Hollywood’s biggest nights. With this acquisition, we are harnessing our entertainment authority, live event expertise and huge multi-platform reach to take fans beyond the red carpet and offer a true end to end consumer experience.”
The People’s Choice Awards is the only major awards show voted on entirely by the public for fan favorites in movies, music, television and digital. Only fans determine the nominees and winners for the annual awards show and nearly 300 million votes were cast for its most recent installment, which aired January 18, 2017.
“People’s Choice Awards” was originally created in 1975 by Robert Stivers. “People’s Choice Awards” was previously owned by Procter & Gamble and produced by Mark Burnett airing on CBS. (E!)

In January 2016 Mike and Molly and Person of Interest won People’s Choice Awards and CBS cancelled them soon after, because they did not own the shows and they did not make enough money from the programs to renew them. The ratings of the cancelled shows were far better than renewed Elementary which is owned by CBS.
After CBS cancelled Mike and Molly and Person of Interest it became obvious to everyone that winning a People’s Choice Award means nothing to CBS and is the same as getting a prize in a box of Crackerjacks. The ratings of the January 2017 People’s Choice Awards were terrible.
CBS is keeping the Grammys, the Tonys, the Kennedy Center Honors, and sharing the Emmys with ABC, Fox, and NBC. Awards they do care about.
Might as well as cancel the People’s Choice Awards. They are worthless and the horrible ratings reflect the lack of interest in useless awards program.
