Will ABC’s Downward Dog and NBC’s The Carmichael Show live to see Seasons 2 and 4 respectively? According to Deadline, both comedies have entered renewal limbo as cast contracts are set to expire:
Year-round scheduling is a great idea unless it hits constraints associated with the traditional broadcast production cycle. That is the case this year with two comedies, NBC’s The Carmichael Show and ABC’s Downward Dog. Both premiered in late May and have done respectably by summer standards. Neither has heard yet on its future, but, regardless whether the networks make a renewal decision in the next ten days or not, the studios that produce the two comedies have to make a call as the options on the actors expire on June 30. 20th TV, the leading studio on The Carmichael Show, co-producing with Universal TV, and Legendary TV/ABC Studios, which are behind Downward Dog, will have to pick up the options on the actors for the series to stay alive.
I hear NBC is nowhere near a renewal decision on The Carmichael Show, created by and starring Jerrod Carmichael, and it may very well extend beyond June 30. With no indications from the network one way or the other, I hear 20th TV has quietly sent out feelers to other networks to gauge potential interest in case NBC opts to cancel the show after three seasons.
Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the cancel/renew status of Downward Dog Season 2 and The Carmichael Show Season 4…

I’m a senior citizen with a 50 some daughter and a couple of grown grandchildren. We absolutely LOVE Downward Dog. The only negative thing we all agree on is that someone else should be portraying Nan, and possibly have one or two talking animal pals for Martin.

Please don’t cancel Downward Dog. It’s the best TV show to come on the in years,
as well as The Middle.

Once again the idiots at the networks cancels an actual smart and funny, no hilarious thinking comedy. These are probably the same morons who nominate for the Emmy’s. Can they ever leave shows like this alone and get rid of the moronic one liner, laugh track “comedies.” And by the way, it’s nice to see someone like Allison starring in a show instead of the same old skinny blonde.

You have not given this show a chance. We love it. Finally a new show that is not a reality show. Yes we are dog lovers but this is a show we can watch with our kids and grandkids and not be embarrassed. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Hopefully, some other smart network will pick it up.
