Doctor Who will have fewer episodes when Jodie Whittaker takes over the lead role next autumn.
The BBC1 series will run for 10 weeks rather than the usual 12 or 13, but each programme will last a full hour instead of 45 minutes.

While episode reductions often signal doom for many TV shows, the additional runtime suggests the BBC are looking to re-galvanize Doctor Who, which has a new Time Lord and showrunner. However, with spinoff show Class axed after one season, the broadcaster’s ruthlessness should never be overlooked. Stay tuned…

I easily understand how Peter Capaldi, turned off many viewers in his first two seasons as the Doctor, my family and I not caring for his portrayal of “The Doctor” at all. Then in Peter’s final season as the Doctor, he gets really interesting, I warm up to him (a lot) and what do they do? They killed him off is what they did but not only the Doctor, they kill off his companion Bill (IMO the most forgettable companion ever) , Missy and the Master to boot, a complete wipe of the slate if you please. “Doctor Who” has been my favorite since S01/E01 in 1963 and I didn’t care if the writing was lousy, the special effects were cheesy or that an attacking Dalek was a stagehand, off camera, holding a plunger in Barbara’s face. I am a Whovian and good or bad will always be.
p.s. really looking forward to a lady “Doctor” but can’t help wondering “How will they ever pull it off?”.

Enough with the clickbait headlines. Doctor Who isn’t being cancelled and you know it. Anyone who read the original source knows it. So why try to generate controversy? We’re getting less episodes, but each episode will be longer.
If you figure 45 minutes times 13 episodes, we would get 585 minutes. Instead we’re getting 60 minutes times 10 episodes for 600 minutes. We’re getting MORE Doctor Who.
Unsubbing on the next clickbaity bullshit headline I see from you guys.

F… YOUR CLICKBAIT HEADLINES!
It’s a shame that online journalism completely degenerated into a hunt for clicks and ad revenue. And I almost considered turning off my adblocker to support you. Sorry, but this clickbait headline convinced me not to do that.
@Jim:
The problem was that Tennant and Smith created a fairytale-ish atmosphere and people got accustomed to it. They expected it to continue into Capaldi’s tenure, in spite of Moffat’s warnings. It would have been better if Tennant had been followed by Capalid and then Matt Smith.
