Designated Survivor Season 3 renewal incoming: Star Kiefer Sutherland hints that the ABC drama will return for the 2018-19 season, per Digital Spy:
“I do believe it is [coming back], but nothing is ever written in stone. I think television is such an exciting format right now, and so much great work is being done. [But] I think networks are very challenged by how to keep up.
We’re still doing 22 episodes, while other shows are doing eight. So the stress on a writer who is doing 22 shows is gigantic compared to that of eight. And people are watching television on their schedule, mostly without advertising. So it’s such a changing world right now.
Do I believe we’re going to do a third season? Yes. Is that a guarantee? Not until, I think, May 15. So we’ll see, we’ll see.”
Sutherland would be open to a shorter, limited series format for Designated Survivor Season 3, though he doesn’t see that happening:
“I don’t know if it can [run to fewer episodes]. It’s set up the way it is. There’s a purpose for the network, the way it’s set up. I don’t get involved with that, I have no weight in that kind of decision.
Our sources are on the case. Stay tuned as we await official word on Designated Survivor Season 3…
